amp suggestion

#1 Post by chunkylover73 »

My BFM system will eventually consist of 2 OTop 12s loaded with Deltalite 2512s and 2 T39s loaded with BP102s. I recently bought a Peavey IPR 1600 amp to power the works (tops on one channel, subs on the other) but after a disasterous gig last night I'm returning the peavey amp. The fan didn't work, resulting in the amp overheating and periodically cutting out :cussing: . Oi. Anyways, I'm not sure if I want to return the IPR 1600 for another one or get a different amp altogether. Any suggestions on a good amp that can power all speakers?

It's not the DSP version, I'm also using a DBX Driverack PA for eq, crossover, limiter, etc.

XTI 2000 would probably do nicely giving you plenty of headroom with the added flexibility of a solid DSP. You could easily sell the Driverack PA and make up the cost difference and use up less rack space.

ah, gotcha. So you would be looking for a non dsp amp, on a decentish budget? (btw, I'm a noob, just clearing out the questions before real people show up hahaha)

Selling my driverack isn't an option, I especially like the RTA and feedback suppression functions on it. I'm looking for a reliable, non-DSP amp that won't break the bank that can power two 250 watt tops and two 200 watt subs. I'm not convinced of the reliability of the IPR 1600 amp, though the one I got may just have been a lemon.

The crown xls series is attractively priced, and they come in non dsp models (basically the same as the IPR I would think). I'm not really qualified to make suggestions though. I own the XTI 2000, and have to say I am very satisfied with it thus far. A rig of your size could probably get by with a 1000 almost, but headroom is nice?

I'm leaning towards the XLS 602D, at 2 x 600 watts @ 4 ohms it seems like it would work well.
