QSC GX5 or Crown Xti 1000

Hey guys. I plan on driving 2 tuba 30s (single delta 12 lf loaded), and 2 tops (currently some generic ones, cant really tell you what the impedence is... sorry). I want to run these on 1 amp, off of built in dsp (seems like the overall least expensive initial investment, with room to improve).
I can get the QSC for 320 (GC presidents day deal), and I can get the crown xti 1000 for 309.
What do you guys think? I'm new to amplified sound in general, but I'm trying to get on my feet, and learn as much as I can on a budget.
all info is helpful!

Have you built them yet? The reason I ask is that you might want a different BFM sub depending on what your use is.

Dj purposes. Varying genres (including DnB and Dubstep). I would build the 36, but I would run into packing issues. I would load them with the 3012s, but I'm tight on cash. Based on my reading, I felt like the 30s would serve my needs?

The XTi has a lot of options - delay, EQ, crossover and limiter. The GX5 only has a crossover at 100hz. I went with the XTi myself.

ahh... wasn't aware that you could only xover at 100. thought it had similar dsp to the xti. Perhaps I should wait for the XLS to come out? The 1500 looks like a good choice maybe...

Aren't the XTi's being replaced by a newer amp?

Not that I'm aware of. The new Crown XLS Drivecore series have a DSP similar to the XTi's, but less features, as far as I know.
To make it easier for the OP, there's also the Peavey IPR series with DSP coming soon.

The XLS is coming out soon, true, however I dont know if they are being *replaced*. I think the xls has less options (but they are very attractively priced). I've seen the New IPR series, but I didn't like the price/power. At least I think I didn't, I've been trying to maintain tunnel vision.
TOO MANY CHOICES!!!

I thought the new XLS are a little down the line from the XTis. They have DSP, but you can't conenct it to your laptop to fine tune it. Being able to control your DSP from FOH or wherever else is really nice. I use a USB to Ethernet extender when I leave my amp racks at FOH, and I leave a USB hub in my rack of XTis. This is nice because I can control DSP without having to duck down at an amp rack and read off a tiny screen.

sign143, go with the XTi over the GX5.
As for the subs, build T48s. T30s are ok, until you have to move them. T48 kills the T30, 3015 displaces a lot more air than the 3012 for the same money.

I agree, XTI
Depends on if he can fit a 4 foot tall box wherever he's packing it to transport it. & I've noticed v-coupled titans take up a lot of floor space. For my T39's I need a 4' X 8' space. But, I agree on the output.
However, would it not sound better if after he builds some tubas and they don't have enough output, to build two more? More horns are better. Plus, he can build a really wide T30 and it will extend almost as low as a T36. This will be better for his deep bass dub music and whatnot.

Good to see so many responses!
I believe I've got my roommate sufficiently stoked enough to lay down money for an xti 1000, so we will probably be picking that up pretty soon.
IF we go with the tuba 30, we plan on building them 24 inches wide (pretty much the max for our transportation ability). Single driver, delta 12 lf loaded. Depending on how much revenue we can generate in the next couple months or so, we will either build 2 more, or build some BFM tops (because the tops we have right now, I found in someones basement).
Initially, most of the usage for these is going to be for house parties, and based upon what I've read, and what I've heard (friend has 2 tuba 36's), I dont think I need the extra output the T48s will provide, because it would probably extend the noise level beyond tolerable for the size rooms we will be in (but not in my opinion hahaha). We will probably not always have a noise permit, so... extra output = more of a chance of the blue lights showing up... and no one wants to pay a fine.

Hmm... Well it seems I've lost the line on the $309 xti 1000 (they are out of stock, be back in 2 weeks). Thats a bit of a bummer cause the next lowest price is in the 360 range.
Does anyone have experience with Peaveys IPR series?
-Do they support an 8 ohm load (only seen ratings at 4 and 2)
-How is the DSP in comparison to the xti range?
-has anyone seen them priced competitively against the xti1000?
Roommate has the 310 burning in his pocket, we just need to find something to spend it on!!!!

The DSP versions of the IPR series amps are not available yet. The only one that is currently shipping is the non-DSP IPR 1600. Yes, it will work with an 8-ohm load. There are a few threads by people who are using them for bass rigs in the "Amps" forum on TalkBass.com.

bummer. That kinda removes it from my selection, as I've only seen the non dsp at around 300 (same price as I wish the xti was).
Any one else care to chime in, and help a beginner out?
