Don't forget about the Infinity 860W. Very reasonably priced and used with great success.

This. It absolutely pounds in my TrT, and I used to have a MCM in its place.

For those in our fair land;

Can't readily find the Infinity 860W here, but did find the JBL GTO 804 at Ryda, reduced to $108 + $9.95 flat rate postage. Not a bad price really...

http://www.ryda.com.au/JBL-GTO804-8-Car ... gto804.htm
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

And is there a thread on how to strengthen the weak spider glue joints of the MCM 55-2421 ?

Thanks !
I can only recall a couple of threads in my time here about the MCM spider letting go.
I couldn't even begin to guess how many cabs have been made up with MCM drivers in the same amount of time, but say it's 100. That's would = a 2% failure rate for a cheap driver.

I think you'd have to be unlucky to get an MCM driver that fails...

agreed...

I'm still running the original MCM 8's in my T18's that I built in 2008. I use mine almost exclusively for DJ'ing (weddings and house parties...) and they have received "slight" abuse over the years. No spider failure or any other issues to report and still plugging away.
Built so far:
AutoTuba. TAT, T18, T30, T39, SLA, SLA Pro, DR200, Omni 12TB, Omni 12 Sub, Omni 10.5,

I have posted this before, but here is my experience with abusing an MCM driver:

Yes it appears to have caught on fire. I replaced it with another MCM only because I had one on hand (I bought 4 of them when I first built an AT). In the future, it will never be an MCM. The better drivers are not THAT much more expensive. Actually I bought a bunch of 10" Eminence drivers for less money than even the lowly MCMs  . Those or the Infinity drivers will be in my next AT or TT.
2 THTs, 2 TLAH, SLA curved, 1 8-AT, 1 AT JBL 1002D, 4 Otop12s, Jack 12, TT with Eminence 10", 2 SLAs, 1 T30 slim, 2 T30s (2-10" each), SLA Pros, TrT.

Here's what can happen when you abuse your car:

I wouldn't let that dissuade me from buying another Nissan.

If you want to spend more on a driver you can. But don't blame a driver for dying as a result of your own ill-advised actions.
