Got lots of progress done last night and this morning. Last night I attached Panels 4 and 5.

Image

This morning I finished constructing my custom Bash amp box, sans soldering up the fan circuit (will be done later today probably). It's definitely one of the most ghetto things I've ever built and it's ugly as sin, but it works well, and it's as strong as anything that can be bought commercially, for a lot less price. DIY rocks!

Look at these ugly freehanded vents!

There are identical vents on the bottom, with some rubber feet as well.

More progress later today.

If you have push/pull fans you won't want vents. :chainsaw:

I don't quite understand what you're saying. :noob:

I understand how the push/pull fan configuration works, but I don't own any amps like that. There are two other amps/receivers in my arsenal, one is a HT receiver (Sony STR-D1011) and doesn't have a fan at all. The other (Sony MHC-EC77) has a fan that pushes air out the back, with vents in the bottom of the amp cabinet. My Bash amp box has vents in the top and bottom, and the fan pushes air out the back. The Bash amp box will be sitting on top of the HT receiver most likely (the box+Bash amp only weighs ~5 pounds), it might suck a little hot air from the bottom vents and the HT receiver. I don't think it will be any problem, will it?

Edit, never mind I understand now. The jack plate was mistaken for another fan.

Panels 5 and its brace, and Panel 6 attached.

I've heard and know that smearing the PL does no good. I'm doing it on the inner panels but won't be on the outer panels.

Also, I'm starting to want to paint the sub when it's finished. I'm thinking that the entire thing black, and the mouth braces bright yellow, would look wicked.

you made me look a bit closer, the round thing on the side is an output jack plate.

Ghetto as it is, you might want to separate the bash's incoming air from the warmed air off the reciever, and its own exhaust. Considering those amps usually run inside a box with no venting at all, it's probably just more DIY overkill.

Ah, now I think I understand what Drey meant when saying that. Was the jack plate mistaken for a fan? Then that would make sense, the angle makes it difficult to tell it's a jack plate. There is only one fan and that's the one on the back.

It's complete overkill, but I had the build itch, and wanted something neat to do while the PL was drying.

You're right my mistake, thought there were 2 :slap:

Panels 7 and 8 and their respective braces attached tonight.

The brace on the top was about 1/8" too short, so I heavily frosted it with PL.

A top of PL and a bottom of PL, with a side of PL! I love it.

No progress tomorrow for sure. I might be able to get more done Thursday. This build is starting to come together! :D I suppose I'm around the halfway point now...

BTW, the screw holes in the sides of the panels are where I've countersunk screws into the braces to keep them from sliding down while drying. I only own 1 one-handed clamp :broke: , so drywall screws have been my savior.

I just assumed this was an old thread since it started last summer. But come to find out it's only about halfway along, awesome! Thanks for the detailed thread :)

Thanks, and you're welcome. But I started the thread Christmas Day 2011. I think you were looking at the join date, I joined the forum last summer. :cowboy:

What should I paint it? I am thinking of:
-Black with dark red mouth/black braces.
-Black with dark red mouth/dark red braces.
-Black with black mouth/dark red braces.
-Black with black mouth/bright yellow braces.
-Black with bright yellow mouth/black braces.
-Black with bright yellow mouth/bright yellow braces.

Thoughts/ideas for a sick paint job? I really want a really evil looking finish on it now.
