Don't lose track of the fact that a cancellation null depends on the distance of both the sub and the listening position with respect to boundaries. Getting the best possible result might require moving the LP. As for EQ, you should cut and boost in equal amounts. Never boost by 12dB in the lows to get flat response, boost 6dB in the lows while cutting 6dB in the highs.
