I wouldn't trust speakon jacks or the plates to be air tight. Silicone might be do-able but it will be hit and miss if there is a leak as you will have to remove, clean and start again.

I think a recessed ply box on the inside with a cable running through is the best bet for a seal but that would be tricky if both sides of the titan are on. If you remove the driver cover, there may just be enough room to secure one.

Not yet. The suspense is killing me.

With the exception of putting the corners on, we're done with all of the cabinets. We'll definitely put the corners on the subs, but we're still debating on whether to put them on the OmniTops since they look so clean on their own without them.

We were finally able to hook up the two T39's, and two OmniTops to give it a listen. I only have one amp here at my house or I would have hook up all four OmniTops.

The OmniTops:
Although we already completed and tried one of these a few weeks ago, it adds a whole new dimension with a second one stacked on top. These things sound absolutely fantastic. The clarity is amazing and we were hearing parts in songs before that we've never heard before. It's hard to explain, but the OmniTops sound much more "lively" than most speakers I've heard. Everything just sounds effortlessly crisp and clean. Very happy with these.

The T39's:
These really exceeded our expectations. When I first fired them up, there was dust falling from the ceiling all around me and I could see items in the back of the room (about 50' away) shaking on the walls. While I was standing by the subs, my vision was blurring on certain songs, and that was only with a max of 20 volts or so. When I turned off the OmniTops, all I could hear was my entire house rattling and vibrating. These things sound amazing. They're the dog's danglies as AntonZ would say

We'll start the install sometime this week; I'll be sure to post some pictures of the process.

Congrats on the build! With my t39 I rattled the Insulation "fuzz" strips between out of the crossbeams in my basement!

Shot of the reinforcements we made for the fasteners. It's hard to tell, but the block of wood fits perfectly in the corner and is PL'd to the top and three sides. A lock nut is on there to keep it from vibrating loose. The fasteners are rated for 1800 lbs:

Thanks, my Dad and I are really happy with the end result.

Have you tested out the OT's yet? I'm curious if there's any difference on the highs behind the metal grill. May have no effect at all, but I'm curious to know if there's any audible difference. I LOVE the look with the metal grills on there, but I've heard from other places that the small-holed metal grills affect the highs.

BTW, great looking work on everything! Motivation right there.

I'm lead to believe that its not particularly the size of the holes, but the amount of "open" space in the grill. The higher the better, 60% or more.

Speakon type connectors can leak where the contact terminals pass through the plastic moulding. I have a small ply enclosure around mine and the wiring out to the drivers is sealed with PL

As Grant says as long as the open area is big enough there's no issue. My omnis have acoustically clear foam behind the grille (61% square hole open area) and there's no difference I can hear. All I know is they sound fantastic.

The grills I'm using are supposedly 62.4% open and I couldn't hear any perceivable difference with or without them. Thanks for the compliments!

It's going to bug me now trying to figure out where I read that at. Seems it was on another forum in a build thread. It was on the internet, so it's fact. Though, I believe it was a standard 2-way design using a compression horn behind a waffle style grill.

We spent last week installing everything at the church. We were rushing to get everything ready for Sunday morning and didn't finish till late on Saturday. I forgot to bring my camera, so the only shot I took was with my phone before we were finished and only had two of the OmniTops hanging.



Due to our low ceiling height and wide room, we spread the four OmniTops across the front of the stage, splayed outward to hit the audience. We used our four existing QSC I-282H and mounted them horizontally, about halfway back in the room to catch the back rows (on a time delay). Bill suggested that we sell the QSC's and build more OmniTops to do the job, but the ceiling height was just too low for OmniTops. The T39's seemed to work best in the front left area (green boxes in picture). Surprisingly, they sounded better with the mouths facing outward vs wall loaded. I'm going to make a v-plate this week since I didn't have time last week.



For our processing, we're using the Symetrix Jupiter 8. We didn't have nearly as much time to tune them as I would have liked. Since the Jupiter 8 doesn't have RTA built in, I used REW's RTA function to get everything somewhat flat. We were kind of burnt out from being there every night, so we got the EQ close and went home.

The first time that we were able to hear a live band through the system was on Sunday morning during the soundcheck. Overall, everything sounds pretty good, but the OmniTops still needs some EQ work to be great. We had plenty of compliments on the sound quality, so it's not too far off. The dispersion of the melded arrays really help out with the wide area we have to cover. The room we're in is kind of a nightmare for sound reinforcement and still needs work in the acoustic dampening department.

The T39's are a vast improvement over what we had, but ideally we need at least two more. We tried the subs in a few different locations, but they sounded best in the spot I mentioned earlier. They sounded REALLY good when corner loaded in the mid-left corner, but it would have made that section of people go deaf from sitting there. For the first hour that we had the T39's on, we kept having to wipe them down because of the ceiling tile dust that was falling on them.

We're going to stop by a few more times this week to dial everything in, so I'm confident that it will sound even better this Sunday.

have you tried a sub crawl yet? drop the t39s in the listening area and walk around the boundaries of the room, wherever the most bass is is good implication as where you should load the subs.
