I remember losing a proprietary cable for my mp3 player once. $30 replacement. About 2 days later I found the original one. :owned:

Found Bondo

#62 Post by NCDaveD »

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle.......

After digging through some stuff in the garage, I actually found the old can of bondo. Opened it up and with a little stirring, I think it's fine. Made up a quick batch and it cured out OK, so time to fill in the rest of the holes and get sanding tomorrow. :hyper:

Little More Sanding

#63 Post by NCDaveD »

I had forgotten how fast bondo sets up, so I ended up doing some sanding tonight and got the bottem panel drilled for the panel mounting holes, thus making it removable. With a little luck, painting can start tomorrow.

Fortunately, Lowe's had some prepainted white screws that I was able to use.

I propose you get a local graffiti artist in to scrawl 'BASS CANNON' on it in wildstyle lettering.

Image

Reason being that as your head is being vibrated by the 2 of them in the room it'll be more easily readable.

Finishing....

#67 Post by NCDaveD »

Thanks for stopping by to take a look!

Drey, this is going to be painted white as it is going in a multifunction room with white walls and ceiling, behind a big CRT TV. I would love to add some color as 88h88 shows, but I'm trying to get it to "blend in" as best as possible. Every time I suggest something other than white to my wife, I get "The Look" (and not the good one, either). :slap:

Hopefully it will warm up later this AM and I can get painting.

First Coat of Paint

#69 Post by NCDaveD »

First coat of paint down. Found a couple of spots that I need to bondo, so will rempve paint from those areas and bondo. Then sand and another coat of paint. Very humid today, so not sure how long paint will take to cure out.

In that first picture it looks like brutalist architecture. I now need a concrete grey sub.

Looking at the mouth, it brings to mind some kind of weapon a Mechwarrior would mount. Bass Cannon, anyone.

More Paint

#72 Post by NCDaveD »

It does look pretty brutal, doesn't it?

Some more sanding, bondo and paint. I swear everytime I sand this thing, I find another dimple that needs bondo. After this coat, no more bondo, no matter what! :noob:

Still very humid, so I can only get one coat on a day. If I rotate it too soon, the paint sticks to the supports and then.....more sanding and more paint.....

Getting close tho. Only touch up paint after this, I think.

Thanks for stopping by to look!

TT Done

#75 Post by NCDaveD »

Thanks guys!

Paint dried OK, so I installed the speaker (it was soooooo much easier with the removable panel), buttoned up the bottom panel and sent the test wave through it.

All kinds of stuff in the garage started buzzing/shaking/rattling, so I'll have to get it upstairs to check for leaks, but as of right now, I think I'm leak free. I upped it to 13 volts and stuck my head over the opening....

My head started vibrating and I couldn't keep it still. Reminded me of my old Rock Concert Days (probably why my hearing is going bad after hitting 50).

Now I have to figure out what to do with the amp. Last time I built a gloss black enclosure and was wayyyy too much work for something that isn't seen. Maybe this time a simple box in flat black or white to match the "Tower of White".
