I just received another sheet of Baltic birch.
Beautiful to work with, particularly the thinner stuff for the horns.
But so heavy...
I've been going off the reservation experimenting with other plywoods as well.
The Italian poplar we get here is as high-quality as the BB, but almost half the weight.
It has half-thickness veneers on the outside. Not the full-thickness that Bill recommends, but not the thin film veneers that the Chinese-made hardwood ply has either.
More resonant, I had to increase the bracing a bit.
I just got in a beatuful sheet of WISA III Special spruce plywood. It is also lightweight (not quite as light as poplar), and a quarter the price of BB.
Very good glue, void-free, and the recommended minimum of five equal plys.
Because of the five equal plys it's stiffer lengthwise so I'll pay attention to the grain direction when cutting.
The faces are full of knots, but they are well-filled. I'll spend a little time with my good friend, Bondo.
Haven't tried it yet, anyone have experience with Spruce?
Is the Doug Fir particularly light? Hard to find in England.

So... Baltic Birch. Differences I noticed, the saw seems to cut it with a little less effort, the saw dust is fluffy and less granular than douglas fir. Other than that, seems about the same, cutting wise. It's smoother in the hand and doesn't seem to splinter much, if at all. It's only slightly warped, nearly unnoticeable. Overall, I'm enjoying working with it so far.

Hey Evan, how have you been? Haven't heard much from you in a few months.
I'd love to try both Spruce and Italian Poplar. Haven't been able to get it though. (at a reasonable price)
The 15/32"/12mm Douglas Fir ply I have is 1.11-1.22lb/square foot, or 5.42-5.96Kg/M²

Put all the hardware back on the T39 and loaded the Basslite s2012 in. So far my impression is that the S2012 is very adequate for it's intended purpose. When I finish the SLAP's I'll put the 3012LF back in and switch to a 55v+ capable amp and see if I think the extra output is worth it for rehearsal duty or not.
Just took this to send to my Dad. Maybe you'll find it mildly entertaining...

^ cool!
On a completely different tack, I ignored cab building and PA this weekend to finish up something I initially started in 2009:
it’s a 1972 Pearl NC series kit I was given, but it was shot.
I’ve painted it and finally finished a faux wrap on it this weekend, with Tom mounts filled, optimounts fitted, air suspension feet on the floor Tom legs.
Now sounds and looks like it should, again...

Very nice.....but if you start now, you can have a new color on it by 2030.

Hey, Seth.
Just popping in and out, as you do...
I'm super busy with work, and all my gigs have been put on hold.
Consequently, I haven't been messing about with musical gear lately.
Starting up again, though.
Always good to see what peeps are up to.

Random thoughts:
Gotta remember to put the T39 on a scale and see what it weighs.
And, after having them in-the-hand and looking at them both on the finished cab, I'm a fan of cutting the hand holds out of the ply with quarter round backing the way the plans suggest over the pre-made screw on handle option. The one in the plans just feels so good in the hand and looks way more "pro" than I thought it would... and it's robust. The screw on one isn't bad, it's just not as good... IMO.
Listened to the T39 all day today. Mostly just at background levels while I put the SLAP's together. Even at those relatively low levels it sounds really nice, delivering very satisfying smooth bottom end with texture. All I did for it's EQ was pull 10dB centered at 125Hz with a wide enough Q to just touch 40-45Hz at its bottom reach, which should essentially flatten the response out. Sounds good enough for the time being, until I can give it more attention outdoors on the cal mic and RTA.
I also tried a couple things with the high pass. With a 48dB slope at 45Hz it cuts a lot out, 24dB slope at 45Hz hits a lot of notes noticeably lower than even 48dB @ 40Hz, with some authority too.

Hi All,
Now that I've worked out how to put up pics on my Omni 15 TB build, i happened to open one of my 3 cupboards where all sorts of stuff hides away (some for many many years) so I took a few quick pics to give flavour. Show me yours if you can
Some goes back to my Father's stauff and my early teenage years.

Missed a few. Didn't realize there was a 5 pic limit per post.
