Re: The start: 6 x T30's @ 24"
Days 8/9: So, busy week/weekend. We got panels 3-7 cut and stashed for the remaining cabs, and got up to P9 installed on the 2nd cab by the weekend.
First test of the T30 was on saturday at a mates house party, all went very well. The XTi arrived in the nick of time and I setup the limiter using a 60Hz sine wave with no load (as read in another thread.. not sure if thats the correct way to do it for the T30 but I limited at 49V using that method), and the setting was -2.5db. We got to the limits of the T30 at the party, which was expected with just the 1 sub. We got the system sounding pretty sweet, we eq'd as we went, and found that we had to boost up around 38hz at times, more subs will solve our issues of course. Had the 3 ways crossed off at 85hz initially, and that was dropped to 71hz once we found the best settings for the area. All up very impressed with the T30's performance, and my mates neighbors were equally unimpressed by the fact we turned it down at 2am ish lol.

Is it 3012LF in all 6?
That would've taken a car loan to purchase

It is indeed! Yeah they're not too bad if sourced from the US.. we managed to get about $AU280 per driver delivered, at the exchange rate at the time.

Re: The start: 6 x T30's @ 24"
Day 10; our panel jig had developed some slop in the rails which was becoming a problem in getting dead square cuts, so we decided to make panel jig mkII, this time with jarrah rails instead of plywood. MkII was made significantly bigger than the first, and it turned out more balanced and accurate. We got a couple more panels and braces installed on cab 2 with the remaining time we had in the afternoon. Not far to go before 2nd side install and then we can move on to cab 3..

Day 11: We focussed our efforts on getting cab 2 completed. We got the last panel installed, the flanges and cover done, the driver mounted and the 2nd side installed. We then spent the afternoon sanding, planing, and getting it prepped for finishing. It tested up good with no leaks and sounds just like cab 1
We ran out of time after testing so it's ready for the final 3 tasks; duratex, castors and corners. No pictures of this day as its all been seen before..

Day 12:
Finally found some free time to get #2 finished up, got the castor blocks installed and then got 2 coats of duratex on. I needn't have been worried about not coating the mouths with the 'tex as 1 gallon easily did 2 cabs, mouths included, as well as a little side project I've been building (turntable/mixer roadcase), with some left over. We got the corners and castors installed and rolled her away
We then promptly carried on and got panels 1-5 installed on cab #3 in a very short amount of time, due to the cuts already being done..

Nice thread man. I've got four T30's and love them, but very rarely need to use all four unless I'm outdoors. Usually just the two slims and that can get really loud indoors.

Day 13
We spent a few hours on cab 3 and its almost ready for the 2nd side install, we should get it finished in the next session. Yeah Arben, I know what u mean! Its been slow going over the silly season, just not enough free time to spare on building but I have some time off work over january so we should get a good crack at finishing these off! Then I wanna get started on a pair of OT12's to complete the system.

Build 4. OTop 12s sound so much better when there are at least 2 per side.commander_dan wrote:Then I wanna get started on a pair of OT12's to complete the system.

Even with two omnitops you won't be disappointed, i'm running two otops now and it still blows me away on how good they are even with basic eminence drivers

Day 14
A couple of short sessions over the last 3 weeks has seen cab 3 complete and in its new home (my den). We are preparing to wrap this build up in a few weeks time when we can both get a chunk of time off. I'm finally getting the hang of duratex, apply generously! Some pics..

Re: The start: 6 x T30's @ 24"
There is a school of thought (headed by Radian) that suggests using a 55Hz LPF @ 12dB/oct, which performs both cutoff and tames the rising response of the T30s.commander_dan wrote:We got the system sounding pretty sweet, we eq'd as we went, and found that we had to boost up around 38hz at times, more subs will solve our issues of course.
The filter will smooth out the start of the rise (below the 55Hz line) as well. You may want to add a 2nd LPF to provide a steeper slope at a higher freq as you mentioned that you ended up HPF-ing @ 71Hz. This would provide you with a more definite cutoff, although I have never found it necessary in practice.
They should have been glad. You could (and should) have gone on until morningcommander_dan wrote:All up very impressed with the T30's performance, and my mates neighbors were equally unimpressed by the fact we turned it down at 2am ish lol.

Re: The start: 6 x T30's @ 24"
Thanks for the tip escapemcp, I'll be sure to keep that in mind and have a bit of a play around. At a more recent party we ran 2 T30's and found that low passing them at 100hz worked better, same venue but not wall loaded, out in the open this time. Have definitely found the limits of my current mains amp unfortunately, which means it will soon be time to purchase another xti. Damn the Aussie dollar for being so weak!escapemcp wrote:There is a school of thought (headed by Radian) that suggests using a 55Hz LPF @ 12dB/oct, which performs both cutoff and tames the rising response of the T30s.commander_dan wrote:We got the system sounding pretty sweet, we eq'd as we went, and found that we had to boost up around 38hz at times, more subs will solve our issues of course.
