I've been to some loud events where the high frequencies seem to mash together into a slurred, rumbling slurry, if you will. I'm thinking that's not too healthy.

My NYE 1999 was spent surrounded by obnoxious idiots in a bar which had a sound system which felt like there were mice in my ears trying to get through my eardrums into my brain. To say it wasn't enjoyable is an understatement. I've still not experienced a system as painful as that one but I've heard plenty that are garbage.

We were playing in a place last year on our BFM rig - everything sounded great. We finished 4 hours and were starting to pack up, when the owner decided to show us how great his sound system was......the speakers were some imported crap I had never heard of. They were hung randomly on the walls along with two Cerwin-Vega PA cabs sitting on the floor facing nowhere in particular. He cranks up AC-DC as loud as it would go - with one of those cheap, distorting speakers right in the corner of the stage blaring right at us.
It was the worst sounding piece of crap I have ever heard - not to mention really annoying after getting a good ear workout playing for 4 hours.
We had other issues with this guy, but this was the straw that broke the camel's back. We never went back. His place closed a few months later. Justice, while not always swift, will usually find a balance.

BAck on topic. Most beatiful cabinets. My question is: what is used for the horn sheaths? any old 1/4" 3-ply plywood or BB or something else I haven't been able to find around my area? I found some 3/8" bendy ply but certainly don't want to decrease the volume of my horn path. I got some 1/4" regular old ply from the scrap bin and it look halfway decent but does have its voids. Just wondering what's the best option. thanks,

But just "because the kids want volume," doesn't mean you should give it to them. Weddings are your business, but, if you are over OSHA limits at any of my kids' school events, your insurance better be intact, and hope that I don't personally catch you. Because I'll spend whatever it takes to skewer you and your company to the core for dangerous and damaging volume and make certain you have no more school gigs because of it. There are plenty of things we have to guard our children from. DJ Testosterone-induced SPL at a school dance shouldn't be one of them.
