V-Plates

Finished "finishing" the v-plates today.

I received my pint of Duratex today; thank you, Leland for shipping it out so quickly.

Lemme tell you, a pint doesn't go too far. I got one heavy coat on the tops of both plates, one really light coat on the bottoms, then I peanut-butter-spread the remainder on the tops. Overall, they look very good, IMO. The tops look great and are well-protected against bumps and such. The bottoms...not so much...but who cares?

This is the overall texture on the tops. Very happy with it.

Bottoms. It is what it is. Better a little bit of DTex than no DTex. Keep in mind there are FOUR heavy coats of black primer on both sides of these plates.

Tomorrow I'll put the weather stripping on them and install the clamps and then they'll be DONE, as will the T48 build, overall. I've been dying to get the whole system hooked up in the backyard and now that the plates are finished, I can do that. I will shoot some video when it happens.

ON A SEMI-RELATED NOTE:, I've been trolling EBay for the past week getting my lighting squared away. I've bought/downloaded:

DMX King USB DMX interface: http://www.dmxking.com/usbdmx/ultradmxrdmpro
DMX 3-pin cables and linking power cables/terminators
Bid on some DMX Derby-style lights (Mini Kintas)
Bid on some LED DMX washes
Downloaded Freestyler to use on my netbook: http://freestylerdmx.be/

I plan on building a DIY "DJ booth facade" and doing some rear uplighting (DMX, of course) for it. I'll put up a Build Thread for that too. That should be fairly simple...and I won't have to deal with PL...oh man, that'll be the best part! LOL!

Thanks for reading. :)

V-Plates are done.

I used two rows of rubber weatherstripping for anti-rattle protection. Four packages of the stuff, total, FYI. Almost $30 just in weatherstripping (covered 2 v-plates)! Buy once, cry once, right?

This is the weatherstripping I used. Straight from Lowes.

Exact part number, b/c there are 28 diff packages there and they all look the same.

I hope to get the whole rig setup in the backyard very soon. But first I have to build a quick project for a friend...a shoe rack. I put it off way too long...the T48 build took longer than I thought and OBVIOUSLY had precedence!

It's been a fun build process/thread. Had a few "oopses" but nothing that wasn't correctable. As always, I learned a ton building these cabs and could knock more out in half the time now. But I think I'm done building cabs for the forseeable future. However, there will be a few other non-cab builds that I'll post threads for. A storage box for lighting stands and a DJ Facade, for example.

As always, thanks for looking! :D

Don't build a shoe rack if it's for a lady. Build a couple of these and use rollerblade wheels. I made 2 of them (using 1/2" BB and PL, of course) for the misses and they slide right under the bed. She can fit about 3/4 of her shoe collection in the pair of them.

Nice! That's a great idea, ncgrove. Thanks for letting me know.

I'm building a duplicate of this one, which I built for my buddy and his wife last year. This is exactly what he wanted. Note the ventilated (pegboard) back. :) Not exactly "fine furniture"...it's more "Home Depot" than "Bassett Furniture", but it gets the job done and is pretty much indestructible.

Did you follow the shoe rack plans properly? I hope you read them twice at least

I don't see a shoe rack at all. Thanks to this site all I can see is possible bracing options for a TUBA120.....

Wrong stuff to use. You'll need waaayy too much PL to make it airtight!

All depends on whether you are trying to contain the stinky shoe smell or air 'em out!

:loler: You guys are too much! :loler:

My buddy and his wife loved the 2nd shoe rack. After the pieces are cut and dadoed it goes together lickety-split like a jigsaw puzzle. It was a surprise to her as she didn't know her hubby had asked me to build it. The 2nd rack is already half full with her shoes that's she's bought since I made the last one not even a year ago. Oh well: We have "gear" and they have "shoes." Whatever floats'yer'boat I guess.
