+1 It will look good too.

That's what I figured, but I meant volume-wise.

A 22" wide T39 with a DR250 atop will be plenty loud enough....volume wise.

And it's not so much about the volume you are hearing on stage about 5 feet away.

It's more about what is heard by your audience and to find this out you need to buy the longest instrument signal lead you can find, and go wander out in the crowd to get a much better idea of how you sound 'out there'...because 'out there' is where your wages come from.

For anyone mixing from the stage, this is essential. Sound check is one thing, but once a lot more "water bags" are in the room, compensations should be made. Unless you actually hear the sound out front, adjustments are often a shot in the dark.

What I discovered was there was nothing beautiful about wireless compared to a good lead!

Sure, if I wanted to invest a few thousand dollars for something decent, maybe I'd get close to a lead...but how many more cabs can I build for that and I just put up with a lead, like I have done for the last 38 years.

Must be one of those - In the eyes/ears of the performer/crowd things...
I just saw George "Buddy" Guy and his band again this past Friday.
Wireless allowed this 72 years old LEGEND to come out and walk/play in the audience.
He has been doing that for decades, even when it involved dragging long cord.
The wireless setup totally frees him up.

And changes his tone. He used to use a 100 foot cord. Can you say 'capacitance'?

In olden days, at 1 time 150' ( ref BG's web site )...
But yeah what musicians used to do ( in the 50's and 60's ) for "show and go" or to win head cutting challenges isn't good audio practice or make sense.
The same can still be said for the odd practices of a lot of lesser musicians and wannabes who buy a "pre-distressed" guitars or "Boston" devices or use "tricks" to get a sound.
BG can get more out of a Fender than anyone I've ever heard; as soon as he hits the stage he takes control.

My guitarist bought a wireless unit so he could check out the sound in the room, but he doesn't like the tone change. He also never reuses a guitar pick. They lose their edge so he buys packs of them and gives away the 'round' ones.

Buddy Guy was incredible when I saw him (uh-oh, doing the math... about 14 years ago, really?), and I didn't like blues then. I mean, the guy breaks a string, pulls it off and starts whipping the other strings with it, and makes it sound great. Then he grabs a towel to wipe his sweat, throws it on the neck and somehow manages to use it as a slide.

No broken string this time...
He did play behind his back, and head and with his teeth, and with a drum stick.

Change of plans!

I ended up getting a vintage tube head. It sounds wwaaaaay louder than my larger rig ever felt even though it's about 1/10th of the wattage. I still haven't pushed it past volume 3 in fear that I'll blow the speakers in my O10. Since I got this new head, I'm considering changing my original plan for a speaker to an O15TB. The head is rated at 5.3 Ohms (I know, it's ridiculous), but I've been told that it shouldn't have a problem running at 4 or 8 ohms. Since I don't have a wood shop at my disposal, I tried contacting Les Webb (registered Louisiana cab builder), but he hasn't responded. I sent him a few emails, but he never got back to me.

Is there another cab builder in South Louisiana that I can contact? Also, do the mid driver and tweeter affect the impedance of a cab at all? If so, how much for an O15 w/ a 3015LF?

And would adding handles affect the tuning of the cab? I'm talking a lot of handles. Tilt-back handles on top, flush handles on bottom (to aid carrying upstairs), and possibly deep-D handles on the sides.

Man, I'm so full of stupid questions. :wall:

Les is indisposed right now because his dad just passed away within the last couple of weeks.

No, the impedance of the cab won't be affected by the various speakers. It will still be an 8-ohm cab.

Good to see you around again. Take care of that Omni 10. Don't go blowing it up with your new tube amp! :)

Jack 12, either 2x112 or 1x212 is another option.

Damn. :( I'm sorry to hear that.

Sure thing, man. I still love 'er. The rig sounds amazing... and loud. It just doesn't have some of the lows I'm looking for. I'll probably hold on to it, though. I'm working with 3 groups right now, and it's nice to have such a portable cab.

While Les is tending to his family - Who else builds cabs down here?

Sorry I can't help you with that one. If you were closer to Northeast Tennessee you could come over to my place and we could throw something together. :)
