Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

You didn't miss it, I'm just thinking inside the box again...

I have plenty of 3/8" BB, but getting 4x8x1/2" is spotty. DaveK says our vendor is currently in stock, but I'm bux out at the moment, plus fully stocked up on 5x5 BB.

I'm designing an HT sub for my daughter, and will use 3/8" panels this time, with 1/2" externals. Her space is 29H x 11D and up to 60W, so I'm doing one from scratch. MCM 55-2421 loaded. Size is more an issue than weight.
My biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my toys for what I said I paid for them.

I'm looking for a new Arauco supplier in Denver. Lowe's doesn't stock the 1/2" any more.

EDIT: I was incorrect. A few places have a few sheets. Westminster isn't terribly far from me.

Good luck. Nobody has Arauco until the factory in Chile is rebuilt (or another supplier provides a comparable product). My local big box stores are substituting a Greenburg product that is totally inferior. Only 4 plies, full of cracks, and warps worse than Auraco.

Ooooh, I didn't know about the factory. Guess I need to grab up the remaining sheets while I still can.

Lowes around here is stocking a 4 ply plytanium product which is nearly identical to the Auraco (if not better than it in terms of patches, voids, etc) at a reasonable price. The only difference I can tell is that it's 4 plies instead of 5... we're doing some boxes for some drivers we had on hand with the stuff and it seems to be doing pretty well.

I picked up some AraucoPly today at Menard's and I really had to dig through the stack to find two sheets that I was willing to spend 30 bucks on. Most were pretty badly warped and had visible voids on the ends and edges. The faces were pretty ugly too.

Just got back from my local Menard's where the Arauco plywood is $5 off and $25 a sheet. Decided to stock up now so I'm ready to go when I get a chance to do some building later this fall and winter. As is usually the case at Menard's, I also had to do a little digging but there were quite a few sheets that were pretty good so grabbed a couple more than I needed (looked like they just stocked the bin)

And now I cannot find any Arauco anywhere around Denver. :( Need to build a THTLP and AutoTuba soon.

I just checked online at my local Lowes and they too have the Arauco in 15/32" 4'x8' sheets for $33.97. I have no idea what the weight/sq-ft is. I want to build the 2-12" guitar cabinet. Any comments? Thanks, Steve

Yes. Use baltic birch. I think Auraco sucks. Warping twisty crap. I spent more time clamping stuff up square than it was worth.

I've never been bothered by it. You have to jig joints anyway, and warp across the panel you can pull flat in a matter of seconds. And, aside from the issue of the mill burning down, it was at least something you could find at big boxes that's usable.

What is a sheet of 1/2 inch Baltic going for in the U.S.? When I picked some up last spring it was around $27.00 CAN if I remember correctly. At this price, why would you consider using anything of lesser quality?
