I'm listening to Nik Kershaw at the moment.

https://youtu.be/daieMawldVk

This is a great track - it's got everything for a musician. From a great album too.

Another of my favourites - the Dutch really know how to groove: Shackles from the Netherlands Convocation. The organist Andre Bijleveld used to be in a group called Thesis that backed Larry Norman on European tours.

Never heard either of these songs or even heard of the artists.....but, it's a wonderful diversion from usual computer generated stuff on this thread.....thanks for posting something an old crusty fart like me can listen to.

Absolutely Bruce!
I don't think I ever chased down Nik Kershaw after the 80's with "Wouldn't it be nice", but that's quite tasteful.

Thanks Charles :)

Woke up the other morning thinking of this song - The sun goes down (Livin it up):

https://youtu.be/I-hvF8NLMRs

There's just so many good songs by Level 42. Another musician's band.

The modern trend seems to be fatter bass, and there are different EQ versions (presumably mastering) of this track. I probably would turn the bass up if I was playing this at a gig. Playing close to the bridge on a bass guitar gives less 'fundamentals' - maybe that's what's missing for me, but at the same time it's very dirty playing.

Guessing that one didn't make it over the pond. Totally new to my ear. I agree on the bass mix. If it were fatter, a little more out front, and matched with a punchy kick it would certainly carry the rest of the song nicely.

This guy has his mixing skills pretty well honed. Well... he's got a winning combination anyway. Get's a little repetitive after listening to too many songs. But, I highly recommend giving a listen to a few anyway. Fairly talented fellow from Norway. Specializes in heavy metal covers of all genres of music. I'm not huge into metal, but find his music and videos are good quality entertainment.

Here's one for Grant...

Is that a tuba backing the bass line? Creative. I like it.

Yep.
Again, much more familiar with "Running In the Family", and "Lessons in Love".

Synth tuba I reckon.
You could have thrown in either Beds are Burning or You're the Voice too.

Interesting cover. I thought it would be full metal. But it's far from that.
There's half Ska in some parts, the Brian May dual harmony guitar thing in another part, and a whole bunch of other stuff going on, but I can see how it would wear off quickly.

Thanks both of you for sharing...

Gidday Peeps,
Seeing as it looks like some of you fella's have pretty good lookin' PA systems, how about driving this track through those 60" subs for us so we can hear the lowdown festival organ intro and snare coming in on this track! :cowboy:
Always loved it from wayback when it was released. :owned:

Thought I'd put together some local New Zealand sounds that you may find interesting.
I play them lots.

When you post a Youtube, try putting only the portion in red in between the prompts. The jumbly bit after the =, some times there's more address after the jumbly bit. Just put the jumbly bits in there and give it a go.

I enjoyed the song. Completely new to my ears.
