I'm holding off on the verdict for two reasons, one, the jam room in the photo is quite likely the *worst* environment to analyze/EQ speakers. Large, empty, hard tile floor, 7ft ceilings, plaster board walls and a set of oddly placed hard columns and beams. It's the basement of one of our local VFW's. The reflections in that room are RIDICULOUS!

That, and I haven't had the time to properly EQ them yet.

Even still, they drop the jaw of nearly every musician I bring in there. They simply cannot believe the clarity of those Jacks.

Funny thing about that room is that it is nearly identical to a jack design! Picture the baffle behind the drum kit, then you'd have the throat panels on either side and the walls on the outside of the "drum cave" actually angle out like the mouth panels!

I may have to go all "Back to the Future" on it and install a six foot woof back there

For the life of me I couldn't remember why I asked you DJ or musician. Today I finally remembered. I was thinking that if you wrote original music I would be interested in hearing it based upon the quality of the writing in your posts!!

It's got me wondering about the feasibility of putting a mic into each shell to trigger the LEDs when the drum is hit.

Thanks and funny you should mention that. I've wanted to do that from the get-go. That, or set them up for DMX so that they could be part of a particular light sequence.

with what are you controlling them

do you made a special controller
or it is a DMX box, controlling DMX led dimmers

Thanks dude. I wish that I could say they are unique, but there are several people that have done nearly the same thing.

The LED's are of the 30 5050 RGB LED Strip variety similar to this:

As you can see, they come with a 44 function remote control. Haven't had time to figure out the dmx or "light on hit" mod. I'm too busiy makin' sawdust!

I have some controlled by Arduino. You can individually address each LED to make any pattern and color. Imagination and coding ability is the only limit!

The search term is "arduino rgb led LPD8806"

LPD8806 is the chip that controls the LED's that the arduino talks to!

You could (although I certainly couldn't!!) have a mic connected to an analogue input of the arduino triggering different colors and patterns based on what it hears. The arduino can detect levels, frequencies all sorts!

Some people have made rudimentary TV displays with them!
