Tom and Subharmonic, thanks for the ideas! That's a great find at Harbor Freight, I'll see if the branch near me has those!
Tom, unfortunately the clamps I have aren't that style, though. It's definitely food for thought though!

Sorry that I've been lax with updating this thread - the last four days have been quite productive, and particularly for this speaker!
I'm now at the point where the second side is being glued on. Here it is after the brace for panels 8 and 9 were added:
To clamp down the second side, I've chosen to use ratchet straps (tie downs), with a piece of wood to apply the desired pressure described in the plans (or something similar, without the using a load of clamps):
Once the glue has dried, I'll get the router going to cut out the top of the speaker, where the MTM section goes.
