Not much progress this week, either too much heat in the garage or too many other things to do . I did cut the back to fit, got the braces mounted and glued together all of the mounting strips. I hope to get everything together and do a leak test without a crossover this week. I'll have to order the crossover and duratex this week. I had run up against some money issues, but I think I'll have almost everything ordered for this 210 as well as the two 110s that I'm planning by this time next week.

The rest of this is looking a little daunting, not because it looks difficult, but because these are the times when patience will yield really special results, and impatience will yield a really great sounding crappy looking cab. I also need a better sander to get nice even coverage , the one I have is great for some detail work and rounding off irregular edges (i.e. refinishing the Foundation that sits near my build), but just crummy for broad flat surfaces. I'll probably break down and buy a sander, but not yet.

It's ALIVE!!!

I played bass through the cabinet today, and there was much rejoicing!

Still much work to be done, but this is really exhillerating.

So here are some pics. I've been holding off damping this thing until I could test for leaks, but when I attached the jacks to the... jack I couldn't be bothered testing for leaks, I had to play through it. When my initial fun was over, I hooked up my computer and jammed some tunes into it with no leaks (yay!!). Now I can damp, attach the crossover, finish and mount my piezo arrays, and finish and paint this bad boy. It's really nice to know that if I start getting down on this project I can just plug it in to revive my spirits .

Wow, getting a decent sand on almost makes this look like I knew what I was doing the whole time . With some filler I think you'll really have to get down and look to see the imperfections.

@Tom, I think the Foundation will wrap up at about the same time as the cabinet. The rest... is a little more up in the air .

I finally have a gigable cab. Yay me. I got some special order duratex and it's a little brighter than I expected, but in hindsight is the exact color I ordered . It will look great on dark stages, but on sunny outdoor gigs will be a bit obnoxious . It has lots of small problems and is not actually finished yet, but I just bought my first all tube amp and I couldn't be bothered with finishing my cab proper when I have a tube amp at my disposal and about a bajillion distractions all around me. If I waited to get everything done it could be Halloween by that time.

I still plan on putting a screen on it to cover up that hideous horn (user error hideous, not inherently hideous). There are lots of finish flaws that show up close but disappear at about 3+ feet. I need to add handles. I'm thinking of adding a bass stand onto the top that folds out since every time I remember to take a stand to practice or a gig I manage to leave it there, also the top of the cab is just about the perfect height for one. I'm also going to build a rack case for the Alphabass. Eventually I'll get going on my pair of 110's a la Lief Stevens. On the whole it looks pretty good considering the number of mistakes I made and my skill with wood. Oh, and it sounds pretty damn good too. I will need to add a couple of piezos as the highs clearly roll off without it (but it does sound pretty badass pushing the amp to dirt ).

I can get really arsey about visual stuff on a cab that no-one would ever see or pick up on. I could bondo for hours, getting more and more obsessive, chiselling, scraping and sanding. Like, the diffraction horn on one of my otops is slightly not vertical. But it's going to be black and behind a grille. I nearly took it out and and redid it. My boy had to stop me. Need to get out more.

I like them. The obvious intent is to have the corners double as feet, but IMO it also looks way cool.

The truth on the corners is I bought them locally and thought they would work on the 1/2 inch. When I put them up against my cab they were clearly set up for 3/4 or bigger. I thought it would look cool to push out the corners, so I made it work. The truth is that caused me a serious amount of extra work as I am bondo incompetent and I didn't quite cut the extensions as wide as I should have. I'll be adding an extra 1/4 inch to the extensions on the 110's when I get to that point, which should reduce the need for additional filler.

The story I'm going with to the locals is I wanted a badass, aggressive looking cab .

They'll even work with 1/4" panels. You just need to prep the cab properly, with a 3/8" radius round-over router bit.
