That there is an interesting device, although it doesn't say that its and access point or router (so it probably wont replace the router at home, but that is irrelevant for sound use). kinda reminds me of the old print server boxes we used to use before printers had Ethernet cards.

the xti owners could use this as well.

wow, type 'usb device server' into google and they are fairly common, even cheap! so for less than 50 quid i could wirelessly run my xti and ls9 potentially? that is too good to be true. (probably is)

I believe that's where the software development kit comes into play. If the device wont recognize say an XTI you can develop your own software for the mini server that would! Pretty slick. According to what I've read it does not take long to develop the software but it does take a little bit to learn that process first.I have an XTI as well so when the Server arrives I'll let you guys know.

Also gonna be looking at a USB/Serial adapter so I can hook directly into the older version Behringer DCX's! The newer ones I think come with USB but the one I have has a serial RS232 interface in it.

Selling point is the remote control via laptop. SAC is nice, but you can't make ROI as easy by renting it out....

Would love a 96, but I got the original for under $400 shipped. As long as everything works (I still haven't received it yet!) I think it was a pretty good deal... even for a 10 year old mixer.

Hell, I paid almost 300 for my MG124CX.

Got it yesterday. It's got a little ding in the corner, but otherwise looks to be in tip top shape. No missing knobs or faders, and every channel appears to work properly.

I'm absolutely jaw dropped at how many options this thing has. Going to follow this procedure to get it running:

We are running Touch OSC on the iPad (Which you create your own screen with faders and knobs and whatever you want). Using a wireless signal that we created using the with an iBook G4 we are able to have them communicate with each other using Open Sound Control. We are running OSCulator on an with MidiPatchbay. Then that runs through a Yamaha UX16 Midi/USB converter into the Midi in and out on the Yamaha 01v and the system works flawlessly. Faders talk back from the 01v to the iPad and vise-versa.

Got my son's birthday party Saturday and finishing up the SLA Pros on Sunday. Might not get to this until next weekend

The 01V had a steep learning curve for me. One thing that really helps me is I keep a print out of the block diagram on page 24 and 25 of the owners manual with the mixer at all times for quick reference. Sometimes I'll get clipping in the signal chain somewhere and isolating it is much faster with this diagram. Piezo's will let you know of ANY clipping.

The 01v is defiantly in the category of "read the manual first" toys. It took me about 4 months of playing with the mixer before I was comfortable enough to take it to a gig. Now...you'll pry it from my cold dead hands!

The amount of control I have with that board, and the (relative) ease of navigating around is awesome.

When you first boot it, it's no different from any other board, really. Just far, far more options.

But the basics, click the ON button on one of the channels, fade it up. Sound, glorious sound, output from the main.

I didn't think that was possible either until I dug a little deeper.

Apparently you can use Yamaha's Studio manager as well.

From what I gather it will in fact work with the O1V just it is a bit limited due to the limited number of MIDI channels. If you pick and choose correctly I'm taking that you can make a very functional remote control surface.

I'll be exploring this very shortly so I hopefully will have better answers after I play with it a bit.

My thing is to see how Studio Manager works through a laptop, wireless to an old version O1V.

I have downloaded studio manager from the yamaha website to my laptop and have attempted to connect to the older 01v(firmware version 1.5) using a usb to midi converter (hard wired) but with no success. I get midi indications in both directions from the converter(which tells me both the laptop and 01v are transmitting) but the program fails to sync with the 01v, I have checked my midi channels etc,etc but alas no luck, any help would be appreciated.

I have had some success using ableton ver 7.0 to control the 01v, namely fader and pan control. If I get more time at it I hope that i will gain control of the eq section as well. To date I still have not had any success with the yamaha studio manager program, hopefully it is just something simple but it is frustrating me. Any one else with any ideas please feel free to chime in.......regards... Frank Leamy
