No shit Sherlock. It just appeared in my left ear out of nowhere about a year ago. It's all in the upper range, 6k and above, but I'm up to 60db down 7k and up.
The right is as good as ever, hears up to 15k easily, which is damn good for being in my 50's and working around engines all my life.
Etymotics are worth every penny. I gave my opera singing daughter some. You would not believe the stage volume with an opera.

Are these the Etymotics y'all are talking about?

I'm totally a tightwad when it comes to money, but I spent the $120 on molded musician's plugs from an audiologist. These have been invaluable. I even lost a pair (!!) and bought another. It's a good, comfortable fit, and best of all, I can hear clearly. At high volumes, I hear things others can't because their ears are being overwhelmed (like vents rattling.) Some of the best money I've spent as a musician - I can enjoy the music instead of being irritated by the volume.

Dave, is your meter calibrated properly?

Tinnitus is debilitating. The etiology is not fully elucidated at this time so treatments are palliative - there are some apps like Ringing Relief, for example. Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture may also help in some cases.

I just bought it off the shelf in Maplins. +/- 1.5 dB if I remember right. Do they not come calibrated?

Try this: put 2.83 volts into one of you speakers which has a chart for it, put the mic one meter away, and see what you get.

They should come calibrated, but the tolerance could be further out. A range of 3dB is pretty big but I supposed you aren't doing an exact measurement and need it more as a guide.
I like SeisTres's suggestion.

It was just a cheap one. I thought about getting the more expensive one but figured I would only need it if I was doing serious cab measuements.
Seems a bit circular to use a cab that may not be perfectly to spec to calibrate a meter that I'lll use to measure the cab.

Do you have anything commercial? It's pretty much along the same lines of having a commercial speaker at a shoot out as a control to see if there are any anomalies in the measuring procedure.

Oh so now I'm meant to believe commercial marketing bs specs?

hehe
I think I'd rather trust my SPL meter.

If it's not, I wouldn't buy from that manufacturer in the first place

I spent about $200 on a pair of Alien Ear IEMs I use for DJing. They seem to give me a nice 25 dB or so cut, so I can line up my sets listening at 80 dB while the PA is
cranking along at 95 to 100.
