Popped the jack plate......definitely going to have to go in through the baffle......putting the grill back on will be a giant pain....

I guess I deserve the pain since I screwed it up to begin with....

Honest mistake. I'm certainly not immune to making them myself and I'm always grateful to have you guys to bounce ideas off of.

If it were me, I'd just snip it at it's current junction and solder in a short jumper over to the other side of the cap. Speaker wire or whatever you used for the negative side of the filter circuit. The soldering iron would take longer to heat up than the actual fix.

I'm not sure how much of a PITA the grill really is, but it looks to me like a 5 minute fix, start to finish. That's assuming you're not wringing a manual screwdriver. If that's the case, add 20-30 seconds per screw

Ultimately, a simple solution and quick resolution to the whole "why does the amp cut out" question. Honestly, I enjoyed the mental puzzle on my end. Thanks for the opportunity to make a contribution Bruce.

Was looking a little closer at your grill install and I can see now why you're apprehensive about getting the screws back in. You can't see through the foam.

Once you get the grill off, if you put a little countersink on each of the screw holes (even with a Philips bit), it should make reassembly easier being able to better feel where the holes are. Dab a little black paint in the countersink so they blend in.

Just a thought.

Actually, it took about an hour and a half......5 minutes to take apart, 5 minutes to solder in the wire, one hour to go eat breakfast tacos with my wife, then 20 minutes to put that damned grill back on.

However, my bout with dumbassery has been properly medicated and I'm now totally healed.

The SLA is purring along and can take full power without going thermal.
