Re: Suppliers in Australia
could you explain the import customs bit in more detail, Ive never had to do anything like it before. what i would like to own is a auto tuba and 2x david floor standers. so any idea on costs?
when i first started looking at this gear i was thinking i'll get the tech teacher at the school i work for to build them for me, but he left and now we don't have a full time tech teacher. plus my wood working skill is rather bad.

You have to 'clear' the goods when they arrive at the airport.CafSentryGnome wrote:could you explain the import customs bit in more detail,.
For that you need to fill in a customs form, which will require you knowing which tarriff item the speakers would come under.
You can either do this yourself or engage a customs agent who will charge you in between $AU 65.00 - $AU100.00, depending on how well you know them. If they see you coming from a mile of, they will sting you well.
There will also be a handling fee you have to pay the airport, which will also be handled by your custom agent.
It sounds quite a bit of money, but most my clients buy 2 or more cabs at a time so per cab it is not much.
It gets real expensive if I make it door to door though. You really need to go to the airport to pick them up, or have a friend/family do that for you.
I send my stuff Qantas or Air New Zealand.
If you need to know more, email me - my contact details are in the Authorised Builders' list.

To continue this thread...
What have people here used instead of Duratex? I can't find stockists of it anywhere.

Where have people on this side of the world got their grilles from? I'm really just looking for the grille to cover the drivers to protect them from thrown beer glasses, 10-month old fingers etc...

I've just received a 4L can that I'll use next week to do the Finish 2.0 on my bass rig.
NZ$100/4L shipped to my door step.
I'll post more about that soon.

I contacted these guys a while ago and asked for a sample. They were not interested in providing a sample and I was not about to spend $100 on something that may be a flop.
I will await lalexb's report.
HEY lalexb! I'm in Christchurch next three days - perhaps we could meet up? pm me for my mobile no
