Mackie CFX20 or Peavey 24FX?
Re: Mackie CFX20 or Peavey 24FX?
The 0V1 won't have enough channels. I need 16 preamps. What are my other options on digital? Otherwise, I'll maybe look into an analogue yamaha board. How about the Yamaha MG2414FX? It looks great to me...
That's what I'm talkin' about.

None you can afford. The 01v does have 16 channels, you just have to add an auxiliary set of XLR ins to use them all with low level inputs, see the manual.hoovie87 wrote: What are my other options on digital?

Re: Mackie CFX20 or Peavey 24FX?
Oops. Ok, so I can do 16, but it will cost quite a bit to get those extra inputs. Would an 02R be comparable? What is the difference? Just wondering because I came across it on craigslist for $900 in great condition.
I appreciate the advice. So, the best bet is to just save up and get the O1V so that I have the best quality everything. Sounds pretty simple to me. I definately don't want to fool with low quality stuff.

I will have to familiarize myself with the mixer more. But, how do the mic preamp connect to that mixer and how would they be controlled? I'm guessing through different groups of sliders? The only digital board I'm familiar with is an M7CL.gdougherty wrote:

Lived in a studio before I purchased it and travelled gently with me on the road since. $200 for a Behringer ADA8000 and you'd have a 20 channel system with 4 band fully adjustable parametric EQ's per in and out (2 band on the 8 expansion channels), 4 mon (only 2 on the 8 expansion channels), 2 fx channels. What do you "need" 4 subgroups for? The O1v has 3 fader groups where you can lock all the channels in a group together. Otherwise I just mixed individually.

Re: Mackie CFX20 or Peavey 24FX?
Pickup a manual and see how it'd work for you. The ADA8000 cables in via ADAT and has it's own 8 channel layer under Option I/O. The channels are more of a pain to use since everything but fader and EQ on the option channels is done through the cursor arrows and scroll wheel. They're still very usable and I usually stuck drums on them, stuff that usually didn't need as much tweaking or monitor use. Everything except headamp gain is recallable and it's really just a stripped down M7CL when you think about it. No touch screen, lower channel count, one dynamic and 2 fx, but the basic operation is largely the same.hoovie87 wrote:I will have to familiarize myself with the mixer more. Yea, so I found an o1v on ebay for $499 plus shipping. Have you guys had good luck on ebay with this type of stuff? It says it works fine, but there is no returns allowed... I want to order it, but used stuff still makes me a little scared...

He's got some rather scathing responses to customers leaving negative or neutral feedback.I'd leave this guy sitting with that piece.Or if you happen to know someone in NYC have them drop by and check out the unit.
Arman doesn't seam like a nice person to me!
PS... Drop a WTB add over at PSW in their marketplace.
WTB=wanted to buy
PSW= Pro Sound Web
I picked mine up there for under $400.00 and it was in stellar condition.

Re: Mackie CFX20 or Peavey 24FX?
For what its worth, I've had very good luck with my 01V. It came from a church (via ebay) and was in pretty good condition. I'll admit I only use a fraction of the features, but the ability to recall scenes makes it really nice since I play in two bands - I can save scenes for both groups for a variety of venues, indoor and out, and call them back up with the press of a couple buttons.
At first I was very concerned about the 'gigability' of a digital board, but I'm pretty confident in it now. Have never had any problems in nearly a year of use. I made a rack for it, and one time it even slid out the back of my SUV and hit the blacktop, bouncing twice before it came to rest. I figured it was headed to the shop, but it powered up fine, and still keeps working without any problems.
The only downside I've seen is that the LCD screen is hard to see if you get stuck out in the direct sunlight.
One overlooked benefit is that if you have band mates who like to sneak over and tweak their sound, they usually take one look at a digital and decide to leave it alone. And if they do tweak it, you can just set it back by doing a scene recall.

Re: Mackie CFX20 or Peavey 24FX?
Depending upon the price, it might be worth considering a digital system based on a real computer.
This would (mostly) free you from the proprietary problems associated with obsolete products.
The downside is the dependency upon proprietary interface hardware to make it all work.
Whether a SAC system, or discrete hardware, if the vendor goes bust, you are SOL.
Example: I own a pair of Aardvark Q10. Each is a high quality 8-channel preamp strip that uses a proprietary PCI card, and drivers. Aardvark went belly up, and their drivers crap out with XP Service Pack 2 or higher. I am perpetually stuck with SP1.
SP1 is a non-problem for a DAW, but I'm still stuck.
If/When the hardware goes South, it becomes discardable.
I dunno about the 01V, but there is probably enough spare parts in the world to keep a Mackie 24.4 VLZ Pro working for longer than my lifetime.

I found a used 01V on ebay for 439.99. It has a full money back return policy, shipping insurance, and the paypal thing that covers the cost in case I don't get it. The man said it was in perfect condition, so I'll let y'all know what my review is of the 01V in like a week or so when I get it and try it out. I pray everything works!
