They came from a UK company called Studiospares. no manufacturers stamp is on the stand so imagine its a mass china made product ??Tim Ard wrote:Dave, can you give me some stand info?
Who makes them?
What is the base spread?
What is the height when retracted?
What is the height fully extended?
What is the per-stand weight capacity?
Thanks
(Page 85 of the latest cat for any one who has it)
This is the web link (no details at all...!!)
http://www.studiospares.com/Product.aspx?code=448390#
They are listed as 80kg load in the catalog however I have seen what appears to be the exact same stand rated at 40kg...I would go with the 40kg rating to be on the safe side
This looks like the exact same stand and has dims listed
http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/level5/modul ... 469154.xml
I will check all the dims for you tonight...

I checked out the stands last night. I have the tripod legs so that the dimension from the centre of the vertical post to the end of one of the feet is approximately 700mm (28") So that is a 56" diameter for the feet.Tim Ard wrote:Dave, can you give me some stand info?

Each stand has an adjustable collet that can be moved up/down the main post so that it sets the base width.
I actually reduced the width by about 3" from the original stand setup so that the feet do not interfere with the adjoining stand.
other dims are as per the link
# Adjustable height: 1520-2300mm
# Maximum load: 40kg or 80kg (take your pick !!)
# Folded dimensions: 1475x160x150
# Weight: 9.02kg

I have now done a few more gigs with these stands and will briefly add some more comments from real hands on gig use.
Very quick to erect. very quick to attach the support brackets (just loosen 4 bolts per side and slide on the bracket)
Its simple to lift the cabs and lights on. So far I have always had the help of a band member to lift cabs on/off, but as I know from setting it up in my garage its possibly as a one operation.
What I have found is that it is far better to wind up the stands yourself. With two people winding up the stand you can easily go up at different speeds - no good, and to be honest its such an easy one man lift its no problem.
I have decided for the moment to simply stick with the ratchet straps to hold the top cab in place, its quick and holds solid. The straps thread through the handles on my DR's

Once set up the stand is very, very stable, surprisingly so, and gives a nice defined area below the cabs so punters are lees likely to knock into the cabs as can be the case with a single tripod stand

The fixed 4deg angle of the lower cab suits my situation so far very well.
All in all its a big thumbs up for this approach
Quick, light, cheap and solid

Hopefully that means that as the hair begins to disappear, the brain power is increasing.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:Some men God gave hair. The rest of us He gave brains.
