Bruce I understand. It’s still a bigger is better mentality. I come from the car audio world. I have a show car with 3800 watts inside, but it was listened to by both an IASCA judge as well as a pro audio/live sound engineer who said it was very musical. It sounds so much better than much louder cars because I built it for music, not pure SPL.
My other project is sound quality show car getting a trunk infinite baffle, 400 watts, My first infinite baffle car.
Truck tuba for my primary driver with stock amp and all speakers replaced. Replacing an 8” t-line.
I enjoy each one of them for different reasons.
I have always been interested in efficiency when sticking with the stock amplifier. T-line is the best so far, it surprises people for being 8” and 70 watts rms…..but I suspect truck tuba replacement will soon be my favorite!

'Mental' is the right term. My four piece band is powered with 1270 watts. That's everything, guitar and bass amps and full PA system, mains, subs and monitors. We run this in 3000 square foot clubs and outdoors, not 30 square foot cars.

Thanks Bill, I play vintage synths but not in a band and not live, so I have no experience with live sound other than as a spectator. I learned a bit from the live sound engineer that listened to my show car but he was not a car guy, just was curious to listen to it.
My appreciation for my show car is the ability to sit inside car all closed up in the garage at low to moderate listening levels, and not be able to tell that I am in a small car, not ‘surround sound’, but very good spatial balance and a well defined wide front stage. Eyes closed can’t tell that I am in a car. It took a ton of fine tuning and changes to get it there though.
I was alway under the impression that live audio gets much louder than car audio at same or less wattage because of efficiency. (?)
Anyway, can’t wait to get the truck tuba in the car. It’s getting a second coat of Granotone paint tomorrow, so it’s getting there. I still cant wrap my head around it not needing very much power. Hoping and pretty sure 70w will be more than enough for me. The total wattage in the car is 370 rms across 12 speakers.
If you had to recommend ideal wattage for the MCM driver in truck tuba would it be 50-100? I wish MCM had Dvc version.

I use a 75 watt plate amp to drive my Table Tuba. It's plenty, and it doesn't have the benefit of cabin gain that a car does.
