I think it's stupid parents that create stupid children, by example. And, since the publication date of that article (2014), it has been proven, and Apple has admitted to, slowing down older products, on purpose. Apple's claim is to conserve battery power, but since the users didn't get to have any choice in the matter, Apple PR is in the toilet. I recently upgraded from an iPhone 5 to an iPhone 8 Plus. iOS 11 will not load into an iPhone 5. I have an even older iPod Touch, 4th Gen, that runs on iOS 7. I can never get any more apps for it.
