+1, sort of. The draw at the plug will be around 735 watts, or a little over 3 amps. You blokes should have no problems running 4 IPR2-3000 full-tilt from a single 13 amp plug.
At the plug, or by the amps power supply, same same pretty much
But 4 at full tilt when 735W/roughly 3 amps is a 1/3 rating?
How does that work?

Thanks for the replies - that makes much more sense re: current draw at the wall.
Still looking for confirmation that an IPR2 3000 is a good choice for 4 Tuba 30's. Or would you recommend anything else in that price range (happy to go heavy-old-iron too...)

At 840 watts per channel, assuming that you are using the premium drivers and you want to go low (based on the fact that you are building Tubas).......I'd say that amp is on the edge. I'd opt for some more power myself.
QSC GX7 is a good fit at 1000 watts per channel at 4 ohms.
However, there some folks here that use the IPR3000....maybe they will chime in.

I use an IPR1600 because it puts out 50 volts, so an IPR3000 is more than enough.

Thanks for the replies. We will be using Lab 12's and going low (drum and bass, techno etc) and we will be pushing them to 50V.
More opinions gratefully received!

My only concerns are that you are playing down to 30-35hz, creating a lot of heat by running both sides at 4 ohms. And that type of music doesn't usually get much of a break for the amp to cool. At a 50 volt limit - you are probably ok. I wouldn't hesitate running T39s high-passed at 45-50hz on that amp.

Really, if you plan to be pushing 4 cabs to 50V, you should seriously consider building more cabs...

He probably is considering building more cabs (just like me), but it's one thing to consider building more and another thing actually doing it what with money/time/space/wife constraints.

Sure, I understand what you're saying A,
My statement is based on a number of thoughts:
1. Even my own BP102 loaded T39's, with their 35V limit, and recorded music, get stinking loud, without getting into the limiter. In this case, thinking you're going to be pushing 50V from the outset is
2 is longevity. If one does actually get to 50V with 4 x Lab loaded cabs in early use, then they won't do it forever. More cabs will mean you're not flogging the cabs to death.
Time/money/wife not withstanding lol...

Not quite, as there are electrical draws other than the power supply. Not a lot, but some.
FTR, I am going off of Peavey's spec of a 70 Volt swing, not wattage. 1/3 power rating is an average of typical usage.

Since it is rated for a 70 Volt swing, it is more than enough for this application. I don't have Peavey IPR in my rack, because they were not available yet. If they were, I'd have bought them instead. The QSC GX series amps are a fine choice. I much prefer the lower total weight over the QSC GX series, including the GX7.
