DR250 Build, Perth Australia
Re: DR250 Build, Perth Australia
That's great I'll be able to sleep much better now.
Seriously though, it's much easier and cleaner to work with.
Another tip is to grab a nozzle with a screw cap, from the nozzle dispenser box, they do actually work.

Re: DR250 Build, Perth Australia
Things are looking up, all my hardware arrived today.
I also managed to locally source some good quality 1/4" T-Nuts and 1" black cap head screws to suit. I think it's a nice touch to keep it all imperial as well. I was worried about sourcing the 4" pipe for the baffles but thankfully my neighbour is a "collector" so I went and had a look in his stock and found exactly the right stuff.
I managed to get the woofer spacers and one set of baffles complete this evening but that may be it for the weekend as it is my son's birthday and I have a full schedule of tidying the garden for the party etc. as well as having a gig on Sunday with the band. Ironically for the gig on Sunday we have no PA and are scraping together all sorts of rubbish boxes and amps that we can get our hands on. t's a freebie gig to raise money for someone who is not well so we have to make do with what we can. It also hasn't helped that one of my two beautifull QSC KW122's decided that it was time to stop working.

Sorry folks, I'm having trouble posting an update. I keep getting a SQL error message and can't work out what part of the message it doesn't like

Nice build, thanks for sharing.
Question: I'm looking at the compression module, and since its open in the back, stands to reason that it needs to be sealed (unlike the melded array, which is closed in the back). I'm thinking the module will need to be sealed not only around the back, but also around the top and bottom. Or am I missing something?

Re: DR250 Build, Perth Australia
Good question Kekani, to be honest I don't know. I wouldn't have thought that the compression horns would be effected by being sealed or open but they share the same chamber as the woofer driver that is apparently effected. I thinks some guidance from Bill might be required? Or maybe I have missed something in the instructions. I'll have another look.

It wouldn't hurt to put some stripping there.kekani wrote:I'm looking at the compression module, and since its open in the back, stands to reason that it needs to be sealed (unlike the melded array, which is closed in the back). Re: DR250 Build, Perth Australia
Thanks Bill
I might put a small cover on the top and bottom of the assembly so I just have to worry about sealing the back.
I was able to fit the T-nuts. I recessed the woofer spacer with a 7/8 flat blade boring bit.

Fitted the T-Nuts

And mounted the spacers (after confirming that I could actually get the drivers in when the side covers will be fitted
)

As you can see I also got the PVC baffles in, hot-melt glued, as per the instructions

Re: DR250 Build, Perth Australia
By sheer chance I came across some polyurethane foam (free
) yesterday so I manged to get the throat fillers cut and installed. I measured the actual angles of the speaker cones, made a small angled jig and cut them on the band saw as I have seen someone else do here.

I also got the rest of the PVC pipe glued in, sealed and dressed.

Re: DR250 Build, Perth Australia
Started on the sheaths last nigh and got one glued up.

I'm getting close to having to make a decision on the PVC back halves soon. I chickened out last night and cut the 1/4 plywood for the back halves and put them in a bending jig in anticipation, but as mentioned in my other post I have though of a few solutions for some of the possible issues and may not need them

I'm supprised no one picked up on the faces being the wrong way round with the inside angles supposed to be facing downSimonD wrote:Compression horn modules bacing progressing.

Shouldn't be too much of a drama to make the horn flanges to match

Damn, that would be the fixes of all fixes. Angles, extending the throat, just, damn. Looking forward to it thoughSimonD wrote:I'm supprised no one picked up on the faces being the wrong way round with the inside angles supposed to be facing downSimonD wrote:Compression horn modules bacing progressing.

As for no one catching it, I think its because you don't see too many CD module builds, and the fact that you're doing the new plans, so you may be one of the first, if not the first doing a CD build thread. Of course, I'm not sure how close the new plans are to the old.
BTW, thanks for sharing. If you haven't guessed, yup, got my own 200 build going on, with CD, so I'm paying very close attention. I'll save all my expletives when I post my thread.

Re: DR250 Build, Perth Australia
I think I have a simple fix, considering that the inside edge overhangs the bracing, I can just cut off the edge with a circular saw and either glue it back on the other way round or make a new one the right width (the cut will loose me 1.5 mm)
Hell! I might even angle the new piece to give the horn a softer turn at the intersection of the faces
