Thankyou! Holding off til 2nd cab is complete before applying duratex, was able to source some from over east. They should be looking mint in a couple of weeks time

Now its off to research amps..

Let me get this straight: you built a T30 from start to finish in 4 days. That's mighty impressive, took me 3 weeks to do my T60 (albeit was working nights and weekends). I've resorted to simpler builds Such that I can knock out a build a week (nothing like a 7 panel + bracing/corner simple TH for speed considering access panels take me a full day that was the first thing I designed around).
BTW brilliant build quality, my first T39 looks like a rats nest compared to my 3rd and 4th builds, you'll be looking like the pros by the end of the 6 cabs for sure !!!

Thanks for the kind words MC! To be fair though, we had 2 people working non-stop for 3 of those 4 days from dawn til after dark. I had to chuckle at my brother's optimism in the beginning, he seemed convinced we would have 2 cabs done in that time!
We have changed tack slightly with the next stage of the build. We have decided that instead of building cab #2 from start to finish like #1, we're going to do the remaining 5 in parallel to be somewhat more efficient with our time. We won't be as fast as with the 1st cab either as we are limited to week nights and weekends from here, but I'll put up photo's of the progress as we go. We start again wednesday evening!
In terms of amplification, I'm leaning towards Crowns Xti 4002, which should be good for both my 2 subs and tops. What is the general consensus on this amp? I might go look in the amps section..

Great amp.....2ohm capable on each channel....you can run double that number of speakers on this amp.

Nice 'Beginner' build! You guys are killing it, well done.
Its worth shopping around a bit online in the U.S. to find a more economically priced XTi4002. They have switch mode power supply so you simply need to buy an Aussie plug /IEC power cord ($10 @ Jaycar) and you're off.
Yes warranty is a proper headache buying from O/S but you will save considerable lolly doing so.
Looking forward to watching your family fleet rise from the sawdust

Thanks for the advice Titanium. I've had a quick look and I see what you mean about US prices. I often buy gear from the US because even with exxy shipping costs, it still works out miles cheaper than if bought in Aus, albeit effectively without any kind of warranty. I think I'll go this way nonetheless, so thanks.
I got the first cab all bogged up and sanded back yesterday, it's now ready for duratexing which will be done once #2 is at the same stage. We ended up not being able to do much work this week, but are going to have a full day cutting on saturday. I think we'll be happy if we get all 10 sides cut and panels marked up. Then it's another week of work before I can build again.

Day 5/6: So, we had a successful 14 hour day on saturday. We started at 0700 with a trip to bunnings, bought 8 more sheets of plywood and got cutting! All 10 sides cut, and also all the panels cut to widths and rough lengths. We managed to get 2 sides marked up by 2300 which was when we decided to call it quits. We completed the remaining 3 sides on Sunday afternoon, and drilled and marked up the nail lines on the opposite sides, which is all we had time for this session. We packed everything up and will commence cab 2's build in a weeks time.

A quick pic of the 1st cab all sanded and prepped for finishing. I have a question regarding duratexing options and would like peoples opinions on whether to 'tex the entire cab including all visible horn mouth area or just the outside of the cab and use matt black paint for the rarely seen inside of the horn mouth/brace/throat area? I know at the end of the day its down to personal choice, but would like opinions nonetheless. Duratex is expensive here in aus and I'd like to make it go as far as possible. Also, will 1 gallon do 1 cab or will a cab (of my dimensions) take more than a gallon? Thanks in advance!

Look at the pricing of "Rockard", I hope it's still available as per the Aussie suppliers thread.
It's ultra black, the texture version pops up some nice peaks.
A 15 litre drum did 4 x T39's at 20", 2 x DR250's, 3 x WH8's (exteriors and mouths on all these) , and a 13RU FX rack.
No primer on any cab or rack.
At least 2 coats per cab were done.

Np thanks Grant. I will decide this week which way to go. I have already bought the duratex so hopefully it'll go as far as the rockard stuff you used. If that's the case, then all will be good and the mouths will get done as well (looks better IMO).

Alot of the threads i've seen they paint the entire cab in black latex first, cheaper, and it seals the wood. then you can get away with a lot less Duratex. Not sure about brands down under, but Rustoleum makes a nice premixed black latex. I used it to seal inside my THT and was quite pleased with the results. And I would paint and leave the mouth, save the 'tex for the rough and tumble outsides!

So are there any issues with the duratex not bonding adequately to the plywood if there is already a coat of paint on it? I definitely like the idea of giving the whole cab a coat of paint (I bought 2 cans of Rustoleum Matt Black for the horn mouths) to soak into the wood to save on duratex, but I don't wish to do it if it is going to compromise the strength on the 'tex in any way. Any advice?

Bruce, I ended up buying the XTi 2002 for now. I can run my 2 subs off that and have a separate amp for the tops. Would the 2002 be good for 4 or 6 subs? Just wondering. My brother will have another amp for his 4, but it'd be nice to run 'em all off 1 amp if we couple our systems.
Cheers mate
