Thanks, I have it all made and it looks nice. Putting first coat of paint on tonight. Will post picture when finished. Design was to carry 1 amp and mixer Have enough room for 1 more component. This is for when I do small party with a pair of full range speakers, No sub, No crossover. I think it will work out well, about to find out this Sunday and next Weds.

It's always a good idea to leave 2 or 3 extra RU spaces; eventually they'll get used for something.

I have tons of extra space in my plastic case now that I removed an amp and mixer. It was getting too heavy for me to lug around. Now I'll have 1 small case for small jobs, if I need the sub and extra amp, xover etc I'll bring both cases. I think it is going to work out well for me.

I was at that point once. Now my amp case has 48U of rails on the front side. Getting ready to add a 32U for effects and EQ at the FOH.

Hey, nice woodworking there! Thanks for amusing me and posting a pic. It looks very nice...very "furniture like" and that's great if that rack was being mounted in your home and never moving. How will you protect the fronts of the gear and the wiring in the back if the rack doesn't close somehow? Even just to protect it from dust and stuff when not in use? Not trying to be a jerk...just bringing something to your attention.

You: Yeah, I know but for smaller gigs it would be really helpful.

I have one of those at home too. I sold every single piece of music gear and computer parts I wasn't using to pretty much fund about 75% of I've built BFM-wise.

The front and top will have a cover of some sort for protection. I have some ideas still tossing around. Also will add some protective corners. This pic is work in progress to make sure the stuff I wanted to fit, does fit. The back has a board going across but plenty of room for air and to make connections. This will be carried by me into the back of my SUV, unloaded by me and used a handful of times a year for small parties but I will still add some level of protection. Small enough I can bring 2 speakers and this cabinet in the truck of midsize car. Best part, so far I have spent no money. All the materials used I had laying around.

Free is the best price for anything, period. I also am the only person that touches my gear, and no one is as careful as ME, with MY gear. But still, you want to leave as little to chance as possible. Anything that could possibly go wrong, wil. Lemme throw a scenario at you.

I have a 4-year old son. He is energetic, as are most 4-year old boys. I have that rack you just made. I just finished a gig and I made some money. That rack is now in the back seat of my car, next to my son's booster seat. He has his sippy cup with the lid on it in his hand...the cup is full of beer...no...apple juice. In a fit of rock and roll induced joy, he throws the sippy cup, it ricochets off two doors, the roof and uncaps as it hits the rack...your rack...soaking everything inside in apple juice joy. And nothing good happens after that.

Ya gotta close it up, friend. It doesn't have to be air-tight, but it's gotta be CLOSED. Racks have two purposes. To consolidate multiple pieces of gear in one place, and to protect any piece of gear in the rack.

LOL. No kids here. I will come up with some type of covers. I have a few ideas. Thinking plexiglass.

The easiest and best cover for that configuration is probably a slip cover.

Painted and stuff mounted. Working on cover.

How heavy?

I'd guess about 30lb. Feel about the same as my double ball bowling bag. Easy to carry with the grab handles. This one bar I DJ at sometimes I plug right into there jukebox but it's nice to have the mixer for the mic. Can bring this with the amp even though I won't use it amp.
