It took me a second to realize that the VW bus was NOT in the "couch picture." I'm looking and looking and all I see is the little rat dog and I'm thinking "there's no VW bus...what the hell is this guy looking at?" Then I scrolled up.
BTW, if you recess the sub into the wall, I'm assuming you will SEAL the front side from the back side of the wall? IOW, the mouth of the sub should output 100% into the room, with 0% possibility of any output bouncing around in your rafter/roof space. Then you'd wind up with a horn-loaded-infinite-baffle something or other setup. IOW, it would be a sonic mess.

Beer, Legos and BFM builds. All of them are favorites of mine, VW' are also a hobby of mine, but this isn't the forum for that.
On the note about sealing around the sub if its installed in the wall. I planned to have a frame built around it and it would only be recessed to directly behind the drywall, equal with the front of the 2x4 stud's and frame. The output of the sub won't be obstructed by drywall, I want to put maybe speaker fabric over that area to keep "rat dogs" and my cat from getting in there.
I made some more progress last night, added two more panels. If I can add two panels a day I will be done by this weekend.

Is that an 833 in your avatar picture? Reminds me of my days minding Gates AM broadcast transmitters.

Yep . . I put it up to see if anyone would pick up on it. Goes back to the days when I worked on a Gates BC500GY (among others). These days it's 4CX20000A's

Yep . . I put it up to see if anyone would pick up on it. Goes back to the days when I worked on a Gates BC500GY (among others). These days it's 4CX20000A's
The station I worked for had a Harris MW1A - one of the first solid state AM transmitters. It chewed up transistors at an amazing rate. Our backup was an old RCA with 4-400s. We had a reciprocal arrangement with the two other stations in town where I would cover for their engineers if they were out of town and both had BC-1 series transmitters with 833s. I liked the older model with the big windows in front to show the four 833s, each with 100W directly heated cathodes. They'd light up the whole room. I've heard of a few hams buying up this old iron and moving it up to 160M AM with great fidelity!

Work continues on the THT! I really anticipate being done by Sunday, I can not wait!
Test fitting to make sure I can get the speaker on the bolts inside the access panel before I continue building.
Where I was up to last night before I started working some more.

Doing it that way is very risky, the slightest false move and you'll put a bolt through the cone or surround.

If you save the round cutout from the baffle board, it can be placed over the cone to protect it while fastening the driver screws.

Thanks, that helps a lot.
Looking at page 9 paragraph 1, both the word screw and bolt is used. So I should have used screws instead of bolts. My mistake. I will correct this soon.
