About a week. I actually over curved mine, so to speak (ie tied up, they were heading more towards a circle, if that makes sense), as I had an inkling they would still "spring" when undone.
There is one shot in my build thread where you can see how they "sit" when undone...

Yeah I went and took a look at your gull wing back halves. I was able to put mine on after tying them overnight. After doing both halves, I think the trick is to get the bend started and let it sit tied up for a few hours, then come back and tighten up the line and let it sit overnight.

Installing them wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but it wasn't too bad. I just used lots of screws, PL, and patience.

Pre tying them certainly makes it easier when putting them on the cab!
Doesn't seem to make any difference as to how long they are tied for then, as I also used lots of screws, PL, and patience lol...

Looks like we are going to have to have a intervention for Don.....he's become addicted to humped-back guitars. We need to get him off this dope cold turkey. I'll bring my Martin D35.....can anyone bring a Guild or Gibson? Even a 20 year old Takamine?

Owned a music store for a number of years, played played and listened to more different guitars than any of us can count. I prefer the balanced sound, not the wood back sound. I would win the intervention, for sure., and I'll still pay the shipping

If everybody liked the same sound, there would only be 2 guitars made, 1 electric, and 1 acoustic, 1 brand, 1 finish, etc...

Well, seeing as about 103% of my guitar listening is done with my eyes, I'd say the Ovation's grotesque head stock looses. The oval back is really awkward to play on, too. It slides all over the place. Forget about sitting down while playing it.

I use my ears, that could be the difference Unless the guy took the pad off, I have never noticed them slipping around...

Man, those things look flat-out difficult to build! They are looking great though! If was closer, I'd love to see the build up-close. Pictures are great, but nothing beats sticking your head in there and seeing exactly how everything goes together. Keep up the great work and keep the pics coming!

Thanks. If you were closer, you could see that they are about 25% PL, 25% Bondo, and 50% plywood.

I'm going to try and make a detachable false back to these. It's what I did with fellow forum member Bryce's 250s. It makes me nervous to seal up those back halves for good. So this afternoon I've got to decide how far back I want the sides to extend past the back halves.

Unfortunately, when I was refurbishing the cabs that Bryce now has, I wrote down all my notes and did all the calculations on the sides of the cab. All that got covered with PL, so now I have to figure it all out again.

Excuse my ignorance as I've never built DRs before. Why are you afraid to seal up the back? These have a removeable access panel that you insert/bolt down the driver thru, right?

If that works for you no probs, but nothing is really forever lol.

IMO the extended side edges give you space (for a multitool) as a place to begin, to chop out a "permanent" back plate without ever hitting the back halves, though some finesse would be required going across the cab.
I guess the trick there is being happy with the back halves seal.
You could build the entire cab (except finishing the back) and run it up to ensure there are no probs first...
