thanks for all the response!

so a pair of 2x280's & 2xT48s should smash it yeh?

will be using Logic 9 for the editing/PP - & the Alesis ADAT HD24 w/ HDtools via firewire seems to be the best way to dump a large amount of track data onto L9

my question is -

is there a mixing console that can be used for FOH mix AND also has the capabilty to send - from the channel strips - to the HD24 - negating the need for a mic splitter & secondary mixing console in the setup?

thanks

Not sure why you want to use the HD24, but the Presonus board send all channels plus the auxes, subs, and mains via firewire to a PC running a program called Capture. It's a one-button record. When the show is over, you can take that file into any DAW that you want to use. You can use a stand-alone disk drive connected to the PC then just take it to the studio or another computer to upload the files and start mixdown. Of course, you can do it right in the same computer if that's where you have your DAW software loaded.

Honestly, if your going to go the DR280 way, you'll need help to set up every time.
If you have help every time (not just when it's fresh and novel for, I dunno, the other guys in the band) then for your larger gigs, that's fine.
If you then use them at a smaller venue, you're not going to have good horizontal dispersion up close with DR280's.

The DR250's are more scaleable (ie you can use one a side at smaller gigs, or for really tiny venues, just one) and can be lifted by yourself. 4 (say 2 a side) for your largest gigs will flatten response as well. 1 pair with the melded array and the second pair with flat arrays or CD's would be great.

To use your recorder, direct out from each channel (if you're not going to use direct out for anything else) will get you there. Depends on your purpose for recording, but if it's just a rough mix to polish performance, you could just go direct out from submixes as well.

I'm half wondering, but channel strip EQ may be different for recording to that you would do for live music. If you find that to be the case, then you'll have to live with the recording EQ'ed as live music...

Capture is bundled with the console, along with the remote control app.

thanks brent,

was aware of the cabinet builders section,

the reason i asked was because i have contacted all 3 of those people with limited response in terms of getting an actual quote - an interesting business model, some may say. because of this i thought that these adresses were out of date,

look forward to hearing from them all

Some great advice in this vid from Dave Rat. In fact a lot of his vids are very informative for live sound.
