You've kinda missed the whole point in sub placement.

Wall and corner loading give you extra output for free. My experience with Bill's subs is that they are also authorative without that loading.
I don't understand, when the opportunity arises, why you wouldn't employ a relatively simple placement to get extra free output. It's not like it takes hours to do.
And it doesn't matter one iota how brilliant your (sub) cabs are if they are set up in a way that causes cancellations in some frequencies meaning those cabs don't end up delivering what they can.
Function before Form.

As to not needing DSP, honestly that cost is a drop in the bucket compared to retail cab prices.

Still, it's your choice, good luck with your ventures...

outdoors my t60s definitely give authority, no walls or anything, good chest thumping within a 20ft radius. and that is with 2 20" single loaded, which is basically 1 regular t60

+1 Even a well designed cardioid sub. The biggest benefit though is that the cardioid designs can help minimize room reflections as they are more directional, or in the case of outdoors can 'concentrate' more power where it is needed. That isn't to say that a non-cardioid sub will sound awful if you place it in the middle of the room or that a cardioid sub will always sound good regardless of placement.

I rather like referring to sub placement and and guessing acoustic response in a room as wibbly wobbly, since no one rule is hard and fast.
