Well when it rains it pours...

I've been able to get two paying church jobs (one early service and one regular 11 AM at two different churches) each Sunday morning playing keyboards...and I move no gear and have no setup. 8)

Granted, I don't get to hear my BFM rig, but you can't beat that with a stick.

You're 2/3 of the way to the much coveted trifecta of no rehearsal, no gear, and no setup. Nice job!

Great to hear this... hope the rest of your business will start picking up soon also.

LOL! Yeah...my barber plays bass and has been telling me there's more churches than there are night clubs and such. He's actually been encouraging me to put together a gospel band for church homecomings and revivals. I sure hope the schedule works out. Thursday evening praise band rehearsal for about one hour, then 9 AM service and 11 AM service on Sundays. I had actually been approached by a third church a couple of months ago to be a fill in for a little while, but declined on that one.

Thanks man. Yes...if I could do even one wedding reception a month along with this, that'd be just enough.

It never ceases to amaze me all of the wonderful opportunities presented through God!

Churches appear to be pretty big business. Its great that you are able to perform for a cause that you love.

Thanks Titanium. Seriously, on two separate occasions separated by several months I'd specifically prayed for places to play (like DJ events, wedding receptions, etc, the usual stuff I figured I needed). But instead, this particular church called both times within a week of doing that. I figured this time I'd better act and do what's being put in front of me. They've also decided to start paying all the band members, so that certainly helped too. So I've gone from practically zero bookings per month to about eight, which are relatively easy compared to my "regular" bookings, since all I have to do is to show up and be prepared.

We practiced last evening and it went really well. They've been without a bass player, I'm doing bass on keyboard, piano parts and vocals, then we've got drums, lead vocals, acoustic and electric guitars. They've got a nice PA with flown tops and a pair of really big commercial subs in a room that will hold about 200.

On top of that when I got home last evening, I booked a good wedding reception job for April 2013. Hooray. If I can get just one of those a month, that'd be huge.

Oh yes, that's cool. There is an argument that the musicians should be paid, then they can focus more time on 'creating a habitation', of praise. Unfortunately yes, many churches have become big business and have unknowingly chosen worldliness, but alas, none of us are perfect, ...though I can't speak for everyone on here. Good work Donny. :hyper:

Maybe I'm making a turn...three calls this week for good, local wedding reception gigs for 2013. :hyper:

Hi there Donny

We all go through dry patches some time or the other.

Have faith and all's good.

Glad to hear things are starting to pick up for you.
