I received 4 of the new Pioneer tweeters, which are the exact match to the tweets in the cabs. All of the drivers have been removed from the broken baffle and I bought hole saws for the woofer and tweeter cutouts. I think the cabinets will be driving 20 woofers and 30 tweeters in the end, but may have the 21 w and 33 t in the cabs so it looks like original. This way I can get the impedance to a tolerable level: 6.4 ohms for the woofers and 6.33 ohms for tweeters.

Work has kept me from making any further progress.

No one has made any recommendations for which subs to build to go with these. I am thinking 2 table tubas or maybe T24/T30s? With as efficient as these Pipedreams are, what ever sub(s) I use have to be either really efficient, or be driven with lots of power. The guy I got these from also included a pair of Kinetic Research subs with an electronic crossover. These subs are sealed boxes with 5- 10" woofers in each, which I have not yet really tested.

I believe the Pipedreams speakers were originated in here in Minneapolis. They currently go by the name of "High Emotion Audio".

I will say in passing they probably understand how to make speakers that sound nice, but have no clue how to build a total system that takes into account the room. I base that opinion on their design for the late and unlamented (pricey, so-so food, a slow kitchen and waitstaff hired exclusively for looks is not a winning combination) Nick and Eddie's Cafe ... they put in a pile of mid-high arrays arranged horizontally and used the vertical columns about 8 feet apart between the arrays as small sealed boxes housing 4 18" drivers each. The system was powered by 6 Crown Xti4000 amps.

The manager bragged to me once that they had spent $80K on the system. They should have put $5K into sound treatments, $20K on a sound system designed for the space, and spent the rest on a great chef.

One more thing: if your room is big enough, you may want to look into using the speaker wiring to power shade your speakers, so as to keep reflections off the ground and ceiling. I wouldn't count on that bunch of marketers to be familiar with the current state of line array design, but that might be the reason for the odd number of drivers.

Resurrecting my thread here with info for-and a question from- you guys. I have been swamped with work and not enough energy/ambition to finish these speakers, but now the stress of the world is weighing me down and I need to do something to relieve the pressure so it is now time to work on speakers again.

Would you guys bi-amp these speakers or would you do a passive crossover? The (huge) terminals on the cabs are intended for biamping, but of course a passive would be easier (and cheaper) than biamping. If you suggest an active crossover and biamping, please give me suggestions on said electronics. Not that I don't think I can pick good components, but it would be nice to hear from others who have done it.
