Ok, I'll give you ballpark averages. This is assuming the friends you contract with are experienced woodworkers with decent tools, but not necessarily pros. Figure 30 hours for the first cab and 20 per cab after that. Add 5 hours if building DRs. The pros on here do it in less than half that time, but they have lots of tricks and have invested lots of time in jigs.

Here's the forumla:

Number of panels * size of drivers / number of angled cuts + bottles of PL - air density * humidity + performance quotient / number of pages in plans * (woodworking skill rated on a scale of 1-19 ^ number of saws used) * 60 seconds in a minute / 24 hours in a day

:mrgreen:
99% of the time, things that aren't already being done aren't being done because they don't work. The other 1% is split evenly between fools and geniuses.

Shush! Don't give all the info away.. I've been following the 'Average-Build-Time-For-Anyone-Wondering-Formula" now for a while and its perfect and works wonders for figuring out exactly how much time one must spend building a cab! :mrgreen: :roll:

Code: Select all

(P*D)/(A+PL-AD)*(H+Q)/PP*〖(W〗^S)*Z/F= X

P = Number of panels
D = size of drivers
A = number of angled cuts
PL = bottles of PL
AD =air density
H = humidity
Q = performance quotient
PP = number of pages in plans
W = woodworking skill rated on a scale of 1-19
S = number of saws used
Z = seconds in a minute
F = hours in a day
X = Estimated Average Construction Time for BFM Cab Designs

You forgot BPC...Beers consumed Per Cab. :shock:

Damn - forgot. Its easy though, its just:

Code: Select all

X^BPC

X = Estimated Average Construction Time for BFM Cab Designs
BPC = Beers consumed Per Cab.
Which sums up to quite a large factor - but thats the laws of physics. Can't mess with the laws of physics!

Edit: Jikes, just remember that I forgot an important determinant.

TSF = Time Spent on Forums.

So its actually:

Code: Select all

X^(BPC*TSF) = XF

X = Estimated Average Construction Time for BFM Cab Designs
BPC = Beers consumed Per Cab.
TSF = Time Spent on Forums.
XF = Estimated Average Construction Time for BFM Cab Designs With Calculated Real Life Delays

I don't see anything in these formulae that factors in marital status. My experience indicates that having a spouse limits shop time and thus adds significantly to build time.

Another item from the equation that has been missed is SWMBO down time (if applicable)...

Edit: Phillip has introduced that variable already
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

DR250s - 4 at a time (4AAT), hum-dinger jigs (HDJ), different construction regime than in the plans - but sticking to all dimensional constraints, wood thickness etc (SMARTS) and a few builds under the belt ( HEAPSOFEXPERIENCE ) = 7 hrs a piece. :mrgreen:

You must be a newlywed.
Once SWMBO has become She Who Must Be Avoided more shop time=less nagging time. This also ties in with BPC.

Well at my house it's PMS time right now...and a "supermoon", and she has a cold. :shock: Thankfully I have a gig that will take most of the day. Otherwise I'd be doing anything to get out of the house.

In all seriousness though , the reference points help more than they hinder. That much is certain.
