I've contacted a friend at the local parks and recreation department about providing sound/music for events they may have. Starting this time of year and through the fall I'd expect they'd have some things coming up. The sound I've heard at some of the events has been really lacking. I've also contacted my church about putting on a music event in our social hall (about 300 capacity)...that'd be sweet.
This is the primary facility, with about seven others through the county. You can't see it in the picture, but there's a pretty large water park to the left. This is where the Firecracker Festival is held, along with various other events.

Re: Slow Gigs
How are you guys relying on work? word of mouth or what? There's loads of websites to list these kinda services, try some google or maybe facebook ads too if you're feeling it, there's a lot of exposure out there - they keep sending me £50 adwords vouchers every few months because I went on Google Places. Or hey backyard signs? there's always birthday parties, at least annually!
Re: Slow Gigs
I've been slower this year than in the past... but it's a welcome change for me, as I've been putting massive hours in at my 9-5er.
I still do at least 3-4 gigs a month and I've got bookings every month through November, but it's definitely slower. Silver lining is most of the gigs I have booked are higher end.
technicaldave - I used to advertise but I found it wasn't worth the cost for most pubs. Word of mouth and partnerships are how I get the majority of my business.
