Sorry Grant. Just saw this thread.

My two bobs worth.

I use REW for EQing in my home theatre. It's a free windows program (google "home theater shack") or go to http://www.hometheatershack.com/roomeq/. When I eventually build my BFM stage system, I will try to use REW and my laptop for venue EQing. I'm not familar yet with the full capabilities of the DCX, so maybe a program like REW is not needed. :conf:

When EQing, reduce the peaks but try not to boosts the dips - you will use up all your amps headroom. Just work on the peaks.

Using a Linkwitz-Riley crossover, your sub and top should stay in phase. However, that would only be with direct firing drivers. Horns have a delay which you would have to compensate for. Also if your top was, say a DR250, it's internal crossover may also affect it's phase.

I personally believe stage subs should have a minimum 48dB/oct high pass filter around 35 - 40Hz.

The correct way to Eq is to average the cutting and boosting. If your amp is out of headroom turn down your mixer or the eq output, whichever is appropriate.

By only cutting you lose the headroom in your eq unit.

Not sure how all that applies in a multipurpose digital box.

Nordo,
I've never even looked into REW. Wouldn't know where to start! Having plenty of fun trying to keep up with DCX's DEQ's SPL charts and builds for the moment. Maybe one day...

Question to all:
Does anyone know if you can delete the (unwanted) factory presets to free up some processor space on the DCX's. 1 saved preset of my own suddenly has me down to 16% remaining processor and I want to do other saves along the line a bit.
IIRC holding down page and page restores factory settings anyway doesn't it?

Any help with ^ please?

Reading the Behringer blurb, I think if you want to save several of your own settings, you have to save them to your computer via the software. Or you can use a PCMCIA. Bit antiquated. You'd think they would have included a USB port for a memory stick or maybe a slot for an SD card.

I did a very quick read-through, and found that you can erase all presets by formatting. And, as Nordo said, you can use a PCMCIA card for storage of your presets.
Section 3.4, 3.5 and 4.7

hmmm thanks guys!
Just want to free up processor space, not dump the lot lol.
I guess when I become more proficient with it, it will all seem less of a hassle.
Time to research PCMCIA pricing...

I've never even seen a PCMCIA card, let alone owned one. Hopefully they are still available.

It wouldn't surprise me if there is some program you can download (probably free) that can access and work on the memory in the DCX. I know such programs exist for accessing memory on smart phones and GPSs.
Do a google and see what you find. Or try a forum involved with live sound engineers, etc.

Just found this on EBay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-SanDisk- ... 2281wt_906
Price is good.

Just found out that these days the memory cards a called PC Cards, and are rarely referred to as PCMCIA cards (easier for the nerds to remember  ).

Thanks Nordo!

I'll have to go back to the manual. IIRC there was a little blurb about the acceptable card.

However, memory and processor are usually two different things, at least in puter land.
If adding 1 personal save means a reduction in free processor to 16% (which is what it says), rather than free memory 16%, different story altogether.
If deleting a whole bunch of factory presets (but not my preset) frees up processor space, and memory at the same time, that's a good thing.
If I understand correctly: more free processor space leads to faster execution of commands and less glitches...

I agree.
I didn't notice it before, but "reducing free processor..." sounds like your saved settings are choking the processor somehow - which doesn't make sense.
Maybe it IS reducing available memory, but has been poorly translated from german to english (which is unusual for Behringer).

Data to save presets would have to be measured in kilobytes if it was properly coded.

No idea Gregory.
The manual tells me a 4 gig card will save 60 presets, which is maximum. I reckon I have zero chance of finding a new 4 gig card now, that would be old hat...
Behringer are Behringer. They don't say much, other than "we make and sell cheap".
For all I know there could be a china copy of a 286 chip inside.
In terms of commands and processing that's probably heaps for something like this unit, but dunno lol
What I do know is that before I started my preset I had 33% of processor remaining, and by the time I had finished what I thought to be a fairly simple preset, I was down to 16% of processor remaining...

WOW!!!
That means each preset uses 66MB of memory!!!!!!!!
That can't possibly be!!!!
Each setting save should only be a few kB at most.

Behringer may be good at copying quality audio electronics, but it appears as if they know zero about computer programming, and probably don't want to learn.

Right then lol
I didn't recall correctly at all!
4mb ATA flash card for 60 presets.

I went through the manual again.

To delete factory presets:
Press store.
Page to get to 2/4
Scroll to Preset number
Hit delete, ok.
Done.

Did this to all the presets I don't think I want (I hope)
Didn't change available space in my preset :(
