Any woman who doesn't appreciate my fine craftsmanship and delicate balance of aesthetics with function doesn't deserve me. 8)

Bah... one day I unplugged the speakers and AVR from the entertainment system to perform some maintenance on the electronics...you should've heard the howls I got from HER about having to listen to her programs solely through the TV for those few days.

Shes' also the first one to complain if there's anything wrong with her Auto Tuba installation.

They're out there.

Back to the OP though....you built two of these suckers, right? That's simply mind-boggling. Wow :hyper:

I think we'd agree that if women didn't like bass, most nightclubs would be sausage-fests. :)

First cab is almost done and as soon as it's functional, I will be hauling it into the family room for placement testing.

Measuring, setting up jigs, and cutting, takes significant time, so various smaller pieces, such as braces and the baffle for the second cab were cut when I was making the first cabinet.

Wanted to build both at the same time, but I simply didn't have room in my shop!

Vertical or horizontal configuration will affect how I finish them. I'm thinking the veneer should remain vertical in either case. I was thinking of giving them some oak trim as well to break up the "monolith" look a la 2001:Space Odyssey.

I'm also thinking of a dark coffee stain and a simple satin finish.

I really do want them to be aesthetically pleasing, so I'm open to suggestions!

There was a build on here with a lite tan finish looked very nice and simple especially in a multipurpose room. Mine is a dark burgandey stain with a semigloss finish. I like how mine blends in with the lights off with a brown accented wall.

I need more bass

But this gal's built like a burlap bag full of bobcats

Thanks for the suggestions!

After burning up the day in the city to exchange the bad piece of plywood, I finally got back to it...

Braces and rim installed...

Image

Bottom access cover cut, braced and weather-stripped...

Image

Overhang trimmed...

Image

I decided to bring the speaker into the family room to install the driver and leak check. Speaker was heavy enough!

Image

This beast dwarfs my 63"!

Image

I had an extra 100W amp handy so I set it up with that for now. It'll take some more playing around, but I'm very happy with it. The heart beat in Dark Side of the Moon revealed some loose parts in my fireplace. :) "Busy Child" by Crystal Method was startling. I can tell the THT is reaching depths I had only heard/felt in my car stereo.

And yes, I've already begun the second THT LP. :hyper:

I bet that other little sub sat there is starting to feel a little inadequate. Poor thing.

Nice sub!

Oh, and the THT looks great too!

Looks like Paradigm stuff is being upgraded.

Very interested to hear reviews. I have a similar Paradigm set up (great sounding speakers) and plan to upgrade to BFD HT this year.

You replacing all of it or just the sub?

The plasma, speakers and receiver are only about a year old, so probably not.

I'm sure you were joking but I think that would be KILLER!
wife-"We don't have room for a big sub-thingy"
man-"Baby, I'm just building a custom TV stand"
This could just work :D

Second THTLP assembled and in operation. :hyper: I won't be heartbroken if I don't see another tube of PL Premium for a while.

Picture above needs another nail, it seems.

I decided to lay down the first one, and noticed a gain in performance.

After enjoying them, they will be back in the garage to be finished.

As for performance?

Whoah!
