Make sure the 1/4" plug is all the way into the connector on the amp. I had an issue recently with another Ber amp where it looked like it was in but it wasn't.

well i've discovered it's not the behringer. thought I had eliminated everything but that wasn't the case.

I have a 2 channel setup that doesn't hook up to the denon, I took the analog unbalanced preouts from my external dac, (actually just took the right channel), put my phono -> 1/4" TS connector on plugged it into the behringer and hooked up the right speaker from the 2 channel amp onto the behringer and it works flawlessly.

So it must be something with the subwoofer preout from the denon? I don't understand because it worked perfectly into the old NHT amp using the phono input.

Aha! You may have presented a clue here....

Phono inputs are way hotter than line level. See if your reciever has a subwoofer volume control separate from the main volume. This is a fairly standard feature on decent receivers... many have independent level control for each speaker to help fix the slight differences that come from placement in a living room.

i'm mixing words, by phono I meant red/white rca connectors.

But I ended up finding the problem, now I have to figure out how to get it working properly. Culprit is the preout on my denon.

I had tried what you mentioned Brent regarding channel levels, but got nothing, but thats because my preout wasn't doing much. After doing some tests and finding the problem it seems I only get enough output on the sub preout for the behringer when audeyssey is turned on. My old sub with built in amp worked without audeyssey but not well.

That probably because Audeyssey is running that output super hot just to get anything at all. I don't know much about Denon so I can't assist you there. But mixing pro and home audio gear is not an easy task nor recommended most of the time, I found that out trying to incorporate a Behringer 8024 Processor between my receiver and amp, it kept putting my receiver into protect mode even with all the in/outs turned down. It must have been sending something back to the receiver even though it was downstream.

For the record I would run all dip switches flipped to the left position on that amp. If you still can return it and get a sub amp or at least a A500/600 since there is no fan and it is designed for small room amplification, you still have to deal with powering it on/off but I assume you have that solved.

Even before just outputting straight from the denon to me paradigm amp it didn't push it at all, I was always messing around trying to get more from the sub and it led me to believe it was the subs problem, that's what brought me here to build my own subwoofer.

I tested using my old yamaha receiver and it worked fine, behringer picked up the signal with very little volume on the yamaha.

I bought the amp online and don't think it would be worth the hassle of trying to return it. I'll keep it for now and see how it goes and get some exercise by walking over to the switch to turn it on

There is current sensing switches on the market if you get too much of a workout.

Also there are mods to put in a quieter fan.

Lastly if Denon is like Onkyo and Yamaha there is a factory reset option via a button or button combination. You' d be surprised what that can fix sometimes. You'll lose all your settings.

I've looked at the fan mod, definately going to do that.
And I think a factory reset on the denon may not be a bad idea, i've adjusted so many things since getting this behringer amp that I should probably start over.

There's a 14dB difference between consumer and pro gear, and an additional 6dB difference between running into pro gear with an unbalanced versus balanced send. That's probably the issue here.

have tried the amp on a pro audio mixer or something similar ??? or perhaps placing your finger on the rca cable (whith the phone plug connected to the behringer and at low volume please ) to create humming??

Good to know, makes more sense now.

Any downsides to maxing the voltage on the denon preout for the subwoofer? I can adjust the channel level to +12dB.
