Missed that one. :)

He was piezo-bashing.
In his last post he was member bashing, for which there is a zero tolerance.
I missed who was getting the bash. Hope it wasn't my fault he went septic, sometimes the "no prisoners" kiwi humour could be interpreted as malicious, especially by an overly sensitive oddiophile type. Actually, I wouldn't blame him for getting a little upset at my invitation to become our local pet oddiophile.

Oh, it never ends. And it's so strange that so many of those who claim to be so knowledgeable about audio lack even the most fundamental understanding of how gear works. But I guess they're harmless, and it's their money they're pissing away, not mine.

-18 ga speaker wire
-a used AVR that cost me less than a pair of basketball shoes
Good food, good people, good times.

2 - SLA Pro 4x6 Alphalite

Audiophile = someone that didn't buy the whole setup all at once, over the counter, all wrapped up in factory packaging?

Audiophile = someone that likes sound.

Oddiophile = someone that likes to spend crazy stupid money on stuff that he can't actually hear making a difference to his sound.

Remember the Moon Audio Titans? You can buy this magnetic-levitating isolation shelf from the same guy for $1000. Actually it's been discontinued. Any merit behind the magnetic levitation design?

Not for an amp, as pictured. A properly designed mag-lev pallet might work well in place of a foam pad for a Mid/Hi speaker platform, as it would prevent coupling. As pictured... I don't know... it looks like it might be using stiff rods to prevent the thing from floating off instead of a "proper" magnetically isolated pad... so, for $1000, pass.

What I find sad is the non-audiophiles that don't know enough to not be taken in by all the false advertising and end up spending way more than they need to. I get frustrated every time I see a monster cable. I remember I the first time I realized the cable company's were pulling one on us. A long time ago I was working at a small music store and the Monster Cable rep came by and had me demo a $120 "Bass" cable. It was a directional, gold shielded cable made special for bass guitar. I went back and forth with a $20 cable and one of the crappy, thin cables that come with cheap guitars. It was clear that despite the rep giving us a constant stream of why his cable was superior none of us could hear a difference.

Lately I have noticed every time I start to explain how line array works the first thing people say is "oh like Bose speakers" followed by a pained look on my face. It's an up hill battle!

The only devices that might benefit from that
are turntables and tube amps, and a $2.00 foam pad would work just as well.

Tube amps don't like being sat on the bare ass floor? I honestly know little about them outside of my musician friends fawning over them due to their particular sound.

It's possible for the tubes to be microphonic, and filaments don't like vibration either, so some isolation isn't a bad idea. Isolating solid state gear and CD/DVD decks serves no purpose whatsoever, but there's still plenty of not the least bit inexpensive items out there to do just that.
