I'm not the most knowledgeable about routers, but I noticed that all of folk use the fixed for use in a table. If you look around on the 'net and Youtube, you'll find ways to DIY the fixed into a table version (along with a DIY fence), which can make some procedures a lot simpler.

Wander through Home Depot and Lowes regularly. I found a nice 1/2" 2.25hp Hitachi on clearance for $39.99. I am in either store nearly every day for maintenance supplies and I always check out their clearance items.

I love doing that. I only make it once a week or less. It has been well over a year since my last "super" deal at Lowes and there is no local HD. Menards seems to not have those super close outs.

It looks as though there was a similar Dewalt Deal at HF for DW 621s a couple years ago.

I never did buy a new router and mine ate s;;;t today mid cut. I think there are evil forces aligning against me on this build. Anyway so I "needed" a new router asap. So after finding this article and some advice from my buddy who is a cabinet builder it was either PC or Bosch.

So given the price difference and the comment by him that Bosch plunges smoother (in general) I bought a Bosch 1617 evs. Holy crap is there a difference between this and my old Craftsman. I actually like the feel of this better than my dad's Hitachi 3.25 hp plunge router. This is smoother, quieter, and doesn't seem to be trying as hard for cuts.
I am one happy camper. For the extra $70 it seems worth it to me.

My bosch plunge is the go to router. Fabulous tool, great company to deal with.

I also have an 1617EVS. If you want to use PC style bushings you well need the RA1126 templet guide adapter (unless yours came with it) and the RA1100 adapter. Kinda of silly that you need an adapter for an adapter but other than that I love the router.

My only gripes so far is the lack of LED lights, my garage is a little dim. Secondly a sold separately dust collection. Other than that. Woot to the router.
