The place I got my cable from does carry these and will exchange the ones I've got for some of those. They indicated they're much better too, just more expensive.Bruce Weldy wrote:here's the ones you want... NL4C

Re: CHEAP SPKR CABLE: SPEAKON TO SPEAKON
Interesting, I never used those heads and since I cut them off I don't know if mine were in the same condition. I bought a batch of Neutrik Speakon NL4 heads, about 10-12, which still put the total cost below $100.00 for 100ft of custom size 12G cable. Still a good deal.

+1 - in fact I tried tinning the ends when I first used Speakons and found very quickly that tinning ruins "the grip"Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:No, bare copper holds better.doncolga wrote:should I tin the ends before putting them in the Neutriks?
Re: CHEAP SPKR CABLE: SPEAKON TO SPEAKON
I bought a 25ft cable and am making 5ft speak on (neutrik)jumpers for my (4) t30's. The factory end that I am leaving in
place has solder on the wire connection in addition to the screw. Is this necessary? There is really not enough room to
get a small soldering tip in there with out melting the connector.
Thanks

Soldering is not required on a screw type connector. If you ever need to remove that connector just cut it off.rec wrote:I bought a 25ft cable and am making 5ft speak on (neutrik)jumpers for my (4) t30's. The factory end that I am leaving in

Ok Brent, you made me go look.
You're right - the twist on housing of the X is a little better than the C. I have mostly Xs and just a couple of Cs.
They both work good. I think the Cs are a little cheaper.

It's not just the housing. The screw terminals on the X are better too. They insert at an angle and are easier to work with.Bruce Weldy wrote:Ok Brent, you made me go look.

Worth every penny of the cost difference... which is usually about $2... less...

Re: CHEAP SPKR CABLE: SPEAKON TO SPEAKON
The ones I've been getting locally are 2FC's and the 12 gauge is proving to be tricky getting in...not sure how I did it the other evening, but the ones I tried today didn't work....the wire was just too thick. The 2 pole diameter only accepts up to 10 mm where the 4FC's to to about 15mm. Now I do have one 4FX and it goes up to 14.5 mm and it was really easy to wire, taking a wider diameter and super easy access to the screws.

Re: CHEAP SPKR CABLE: SPEAKON TO SPEAKON
It's generally OK to snip a few strands of wire to make a connector fit... as long as there's enough for good mechanical fit (at least half or so). NL4s are designed for #14 stranded IIRC. Use a small flush cutter to take off a few strands of #12 and it works just fine.doncolga wrote:The ones I've been getting locally are 2FC's and the 12 gauge is proving to be tricky getting in...not sure how I did it the other evening, but the ones I tried today didn't work....the wire was just too thick. Under Technical Information this says these work with 10-12 AWG and the 2FC says it's for 12 AWG...maybe my cable is actually 10 AWG...

I got NL4 connectors for Leland the ebay cables were kinda hard to bet it I had to twist and squeeze em down with needle noses to get them in the holes.doncolga wrote:http://www.neutrik.com/en/speakon/spx-series/nl4fx
