As it sits right now I just need to screw the backs on and finish painting the cab with truck bed liner or duratex and I am done. A little tweaking as they are really mid bass heavy right now.

You've done a great looking build. these are going to be my next project, so the photos have given me valuable insight into what I'm getting myself into. What driver did you use 2512?

With Pro series on the driver I'd say Delta Pro 12.

I got a great deal on them. 120 for both barely used, otherwise I woul have gone with the slightly lighter driver.

Great looking build! Just wanted to say "thank you" for putting up so many detailed pics. Will really help me with my 4-OTop 112 build starting very soon.

That is correct, the 3012HO and Delta Pro needs a smaller chamber according to plans, so the slots in the baffle should have been omited..

Don't know if that will have very much of an effect - but OP does mention them being midbass heavy..

Wow, I didn't catch the incorrect baffle and I stared at those pics like porn. That could probably be fixed by PL'ing a strip to cover the holes. Far less of a "big deal" than NEEDING the holes and not cutting them.



Looking at this "pre-foam" pic, that's an easy fix. Thanks to the wonder of expanding PL, you could stuff some wooden scraps in there and PL the whole mess in. I'd just get some wooden stir sticks from Home Depot and cut them to size and PL them in there. The biggest PITA will be removing the backs, especially if they are Duratexed in there (fasteners covered).

Whatever happened with your OTops, Subz? Did you seal the holes?

One interesting note: In the pic above this post, right where your four bolts are that hold your bottom-mount top hat, is where I plan on bringing my normal tophat right through the bottom. That's where the COG is on the cab with the incredibly heavy for their size Delta Pros. It just might fit without a spacer. Will be interesting to say the least.

Wow I haven't been on in ages. I also haven't had much going on in terms of gigs, but its heating up this summer, so I have got back into the swing of things.

I didn't catch this thread, but started to snoop around again after my previous question awhile back about my Otops sounding midbass heavy, so I figured something must not be right. Luckily with my new DRPA+ I was able to EQ them flat outdoors so they sounded alot better on my last gig this past weekend, but I will be opening them up to fix that slot issue.

Now I also bought another set of Otop 12 for cheap, basically just to use the 2512 driver inside, so I will have to look and see if that chamber is needed or not when I swap over drivers.

Glad to hear that you'll be patching the unneeded airspace holes in your OTops. EQ can fix a lot of things, but it's no substitute for a properly constructed enclosure. As for the 2512's, the plans do not specifically say whether or not the 2512 needs the slots, but the plans DO SAY:

3012HO driver, with a higher Fs and smaller Vas than optimum, needs less chamber volume, so the throat reflector airspaces are isolated from the driver chamber. The same applies to the Delta Pro driver

Now that I understand Bill's logic and the way he writes, this says to me that the 2512 needs the slots, b/c it's not specifically mentioned that it does NOT.

Patching the slots should be very easy. Strips of 1/2" or even 1/4" ply and plenty of PL will do nicely. For safety, I'd either pull the drivers out, or at least cover the holes in the frame really well with newspaper/masking tape. You don't want any PL or wood bits getting stuck in the Delta's paper cone. Good luck and post pics.
