So me just hitting 123.2db tonight in the middle of the room is too loud? Sounds great. :) only 109 A weight tho. And that's what people keep quoting me as in the other thread about the install system. He said he hit 105 and it was moderately loud. Then he said that was A weight. 105 A weight is pretty loud in my opinion. Maybe it's everyone else that is confused and not me. ;) :hyper: :fruit:

The progressive increase in cab size, evident in your build list, could be an indicator that you might be losing some hearing bro.

123 dB on the floor? I hope that was happening all below 60 Hz...

The next time you're reading 105dB 'A' weighted turn off the subs. The reading won't change by much, if at all.

Pardon? :D

yeah, it peaked at 109 A weight so there is a lot of sub energy there from the 4 t48 along the front of the stage.

my cabs are getting bigger because im doing bigger venues, and i want to go lower.

although doing 10 hardcore/screamo bands in two nights while feeling under the weather has left me a bit drained as i sit here at home in the blessed post gig silence.

its beginning to annoy me a bit now, so i started looking up riders, this is from the Marshall Tucker band  maybe you guys have heard of them, but the rider is comprehensive so they are obviously playing big places.
11. PA SYSTEM
The Marshall Tucker Band F.O.H. Engineer will have full access to all P.A. CONTROLS…NO HIDDEN
COMPRESSION OR LIMITING!
The P.A. SYTEM will consist of all current and high quality (See Below) components, and all will be in
good working order.
CLARITY AND HEADROOM is our main objective. The Marshall Tucker Band is a High Energy /
Southern Rock Band which means we are LOUD…STAGE VOLUME and HOUSE VOLUME! The P.A.
SYSTEM is expected to MAINTAIN an 115db MINIMUM SPL continuous at the F.O.H. mix position at
all times WITH NO DISTORTION!
they dont say A or C weighted. its not like you can just assume its C weighted with such a band. and it seems pretty dumb not to state it clearly when you go into such detail about what kind of sandwiches are required.
Lunch @ 12:30 p.m. (No one may touch crew food until after MTB crew has
eaten.)
A. Sliced meat tray of ham, turkey, roast beef for 6
NO PREPACKAGED MEATS!
B. One medium jar of Hellmans mayonnaise.
C. Ketchup and mustard.
D. One loaf wheat bread, one loaf white bread.
E. NO PRE-MADE SANDWICHES

here is another one...
Speakers of the highest professional quality, in
good working order, correctly phase aligned, capable of generating a
continuous average SPL of 110db “A” weighted at the FOH mix position . -
Preference: EAW, Meyer, V-dosc, et
from my experience tonight i would say 110 A weighted at FOH that is any distance from the stage would be unbelievable surely?

Most riders I've looked up, for educational purposes, read more like an ultimatum written by a pissed-off wife. Caps and all. :|

Best part is, there's no feedback mechanism inherent in a rider. All bark, no bite outside of court. Where's the paper trail after it? Who's actually qualified to confirm or enforce all these details? Who's got the time?

Is that really roast beef, or just lips and ***holes? Good grief

I hope this is not a silly question...I'm just curious. If the music on a dancefloor is loud enough to dance to, but you can still talk without screaming (maybe a little leaning in), about how many dB would that be?

the silly answer is " just a little less than the volume that makes people lean right in to talk "

which I guess is around 105 'we're really having a party' dB, this is where I draw the line if I'm in control of loudness.

followed by cupped hands

screaming into cupped hands

end of conversational attempts

someone else fill in the SPL??

Strange you should say that, because as i was holding my spl meter in the middle of the room during the screamo metal band, hitting the low 120s, the guy beside me leaned in 'a little bit' and said, whats that? and i said its an SPL meter. It measures how loud it is.
no screaming required. (except by the band) :?

I strongly believe that this is possible solely because the acoustics of the venue are excellent and the dr280s and t48s are so clean.

Another Venue owner came over to me earlier that evening and saw my meter and said no way is it that loud. (about 115 C weight at FOH) :? um, yes it is.

Word, when it is that clear, it doesn't sound loud.

Still causes the same damage, so :fingers:

On that note, I don't go ANYWHERE without my etymotics. I won't go into a loud restaurant without them in my ears. My hearing is way too important.

this my friend means you are in the danger zone. NIHL or noise induced hearing loss is permanent, there is no cure and no effective med for this condition. protect your hearing while you still can or otherwise tinnitus may become you constant partner. you do not want tinnitus, you would not wish tinnitus on your worst enemy.
