What about using a thin plastic bag like a tall kitchen garbage bag, place it on the driver cone and squirt in some expanding foam like the kind used for sealing around windows and doors in new construction ( available at home depot or lowes for less than $4 a can )

You could then place say a 1/2" scrap of ply about the size of the driver on top for enough weight to make sure the foam expands around all of the cone but not so much weight as to distort the shape of the cone and you should have a good mold that follows the contour of the cone, would that make a better phase plug than the current ply one?

It only took Tim experimenting with about every brand of foam to find one that worked with the original fillers. Not saying it won't work, but easier said than done.

There are methods that could give a better result. The method in the plans is one that the average builder can use. If one wants to try something else, well, that's what DIY stands for.

Still here. I could have come up with a more sophisticated plug extension. But a design capable of getting one more dB isn't worth it if no one can make it.

No doubt, but I think that was the first time I've ever heard you entertain the thought of someone not sticking to the plans. :)

Only because 99% of the time proposed deviations from the plans are without merit. This instance is the exception that proves the rule.

Well, I got a chuckle anyway.

Me too! 8)

It's nice to know that Bill isn't closed minded about his designs! :wall:

I am truly humbled!

Make the crazy complex plug and then get someone to cast and mass produce'em :)

Still waiting for someone to mass produce melded arrays in twos or fours that fit together. That'd be amazing!

Workin on it. Been working on it for a long time, I mean a couple of years long time off and on. With Monomer btw the last few months. Who I will get prototypes to fairly soon. Really, I mean it this time. :wall:

A phase plug was figured out long ago, just never got into production, Tim's fillers were too easy. Now that they're obsoleted I need to revisit that one. These should be easier.

I'll make the plugs.

if someone tells me what the proper shape is. I'm a tool and die maker, not an acoustical engineer. :wall:

A mirror image of the center of the actual driver.

The mirror image would extend all the way out to the surround I would think?
