You would be better served to sell the tops to someone else to finance your build with the recommended drivers. OT112s should be a quick build for you.sine143 wrote:I'll open up those tops sometime this month. Sure hope they have something useable in them. Eyeballing it.... I cant really take a stab at what driver it is. 150w 8 ohms, 12 inches, but it has EMINENCE printed on the cone itself, which doesnt seem to be the case now days.

Trust me... I would sell them if I could, but they are the kind of thing that neither sounds or looks impressive. I've no idea where I even got them, because I surely didnt pay for them.
I'll probably bang out the Otops next week. Good spring break project. I'll probably end up loading with one of the cheaper recommended drivers or something though, since, if I'm not mistaken, otops can easily run over tubas, even with the lower end drivers in the plans?

He is opening them up due to my suggestion that they might actually be the recommended drivers for OT112.DJPhatman wrote: You would be better served to sell the tops to someone else to finance your build with the recommended drivers. OT112s should be a quick build for you.

Re: Guess I'll say hey!
that's the plan, although I have my doubts. Maybe I'll get lucky. There should least be a bit of noticeable improvement I would think, with the addition of the tweeter array and horn. It might not be like turning lead into gold, but It will get us by for a little while I would think
If these tops had a JBL name slapped on them, selling them would be a different story hahaha.

Then, instead of bolting the driver down with T-nuts, use L-brackets. This way, you can upgrade to the premium driver when funds allow.

Re: Guess I'll say hey!
I just finished my first OT12. Just go for the 2512. Leland talked me into it, and I certainly don't regret it. It's easier to turn gain down than it is to turn it up past max.
Plus, they're super light. It's freaky weird.

Re: Guess I'll say hey!
Can you make a video of your tuba's and upload it on youtube (Or send me)? I'm very very very interested about the tuba 30!!!

Re: Guess I'll say hey!
I could probably do that.
Vids of heavy bass are somewhat difficult, because it distorts mics and things like that, and I cant run the tubas up to war volume in my apartment (neighbors have been complaining about "explosions" hahahaha).
What type of content are you interested in? things like sweeps, or music program?

Re: Guess I'll say hey!
It will probably be about a week or two, because I need to finish up my omnitops before I can give you a good representation of music (although I have probably listened to 6-10 hours of music, with only the tubas... which is kind of funny hahaha).
I *might* be able to get a video for you this friday, because we will probably haul the tubas out to a small bar/club that I'm going to be spinning at, so we can show the locals some real bass. That video will probably be kinda choppy, and not the best sound quality.
The other vid shoud be decent, because I'll rig up my condenser to feed into the cameras sound in, which should help audio quality, if I am keen on the gaine knobs.

Re: Guess I'll say hey!
Sorry man, couldnt take a vid of it tonight. The owner of the bar wanted me to sign a waiver to use my own subs (instead of the 2 powered 15s they have), even though they would be powering the tops off their own amps, and our systems wouldn't interact at all.
bleh.
Gig was good though. Rocked the crowd, but I could have used a lot more bass.

Re: Guess I'll say hey!
welll, Its hard to be accurate in description here. If you see my like... 4th post, I describe the bass levels. they were prettty good. Nothing organ shattering, but decent. It sounded great. You could not tell where the bass was coming from at all, and it was very clean. It wasnt like "kick you in the chest" but we were also not running at full tilt.
