I'd love to be in a city where T36 and THT are regulars on the DnB/dubstep circuit.

That is on a budget. Imagine buying a comparable rig.

I'm doing it slowly. A lot is done in the past year alone. I'm gonna need to make a few bucks with this rig first; I'm part of that 13.5% in this state...

Honestly - I'm getting a bit tired of what the kids around here are calling dubstep. It seems that now that it's become popular it's also becoming very homogenized. (homogenized==boring and repetitive and devoid of any soul or balls...)

For Contrast - here's one of my favourite mixes from 2006. (favourite spelled like a brit because that's where this ish came from...)

Christine Vaccine - August 2006 Mix

Last weekend at the afterhours for our burlesque show one of the "up and coming" dubstep DJs was playing the usual boring crowd-friendly stuff he plays and my friend who was running sound for the event was proudly talking about how happy he is with the purchase of his double-15" McCauley subs. With the music being played they were doing a great job of pounding.

After the kid's set we had some downtime to usher most of the patrons out of the building ("You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!!") and then I threw on the mix I linked above. It took the sound guy less than five minutes to come over and ask me why I was playing ambient. I then had the pleasure of explaining to him that it was dubstep, not ambient - it just sounded like that because his precious subs were totally incapable of reproducing most of the basslines. It was a great experience to see that look on his face.

Mind you - he and I are great friends, and we work together all the time, but he just has a really hard time letting go of the old way of doing things. He still splits his subs on each side of the stage even though he fully understands the physics of the power alley. He insists on using 1970s state-of-the-art gear. So any time I get a chance to give him real-world tangible evidence of why it's time to step into the 21st century it makes me grin.

"dubstep" that was played that night contained a lot of energy from 50-70Hz.

it was boring and repetitive, I wasn't going to bring that up. I'm more of a DnB person when it comes to the reggae inspired music.

Actually - the Dub in Dubstep comes not from Dub/Reggae roots, but rather from dub remixes (mixes of songs without vocals), which got its name from the dubplates of the 80s and 90s - which were short-run 10" acetate records designed for limited play. The origin of dubstep culture in the UK grew out of a group of people who collectively got fed up with the same old same old of the turn of the century electronic scene and came up with a new sound and a new style that was constantly evolving. Now that it's catching on it's being turned into just another mass-market commodity with predictable rhythms, samples, and track structure. And yes - they've added the vocals back in. *puke*

ah.

I have a couple of freestyle house records that have a "dub" side. this explains it.

Thanks!

A OT115 is about 45 pounds, therefore a OT215 will be in the neighborhood of 90 pounds  . Would you be stacking on a pole, or would it be a scaffold-type of idea? Just some food for thought.

I thought they were a little lighter with neo drivers.

scaffold will be bought at some time. I think the omni 1x12's that I have are more then sufficient for any bar gig I ever plan on doing in the near future.

I get to order some XTI1000's this check, to power everything. need to order a tapco thump for a monitor also, and then theirs buying a truck.

Since you already have OT12s, why not build some more even if it totals eight?...and then you have total scalability for whatever the situation. :ugeek: It makes more sense to me to do this rather than have a mix of tops and ending up with not-quite enough: a/-units for the gig b/-not enough $$ c/-whatever I can't think of yet

the 15's can be used by themselves, less rig to haul.
