I would get as many as required, piano hinge them all together, and then unfold it accordion style and wrap em round the drum set. No frames. Easy to transport and store.Scott Brochu wrote:But isn't that a big sail? How would one secure it to the floor?

I once made some with a brackets at the top of the frame that attached to cymbal stands. I made them 2-1/2 to 3 feet high as I recall.Scott Brochu wrote: But isn't that a big sail? How would one secure it to the floor?

YOu wouldn't have any pictures by any chance? of the shield.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:I once made some with a brackets at the top of the frame that attached to cymbal stands. SO you are saying, if my crashes are about 50" from the floor than I would need a shield about 48" due to the angle that I can see the other players?

Depends on whether you want to block the crashes, but if you do it doesn't take much, their wavelengths are quite short. The point about not needing them to extend to the floor, or even within 24 inches of the floor, is there's no one down there to block the sound from.Scott Brochu wrote:YOu wouldn't have any pictures by any chance? of the shield.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:I once made some with a brackets at the top of the frame that attached to cymbal stands. OK getting it now, I wont be isolating myself for the sole purpose of better sound but blocking the sound from my other players.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:Depends on whether you want to block the crashes, but if you do it doesn't take much, their wavelengths are quite short. But the kick would have to be covered at least near the floor. I think.
Thank you Bill for taking the time to make a drummer understand.

Re: AT installed! about time......
Nope. The problem frequencies from the drums are above 500 Hz, which are the most easily heard and are the bulk of what the drums produce. They're also the most easily blocked, and that's why the shields don't need much more than line of sight coverage between the source and the ears of the rest of the band. The lower frequencies of the kick aren't easily blocked, but as they are at a much lower level and aren't as easily heard they don't need to be.Scott Brochu wrote: But the kick would have to be covered at least near the floor. The crashes are what blow me away, standing next to drummer.
Re the sail problem, you're right if a good wind blows across your front it will want to topple but I don't think you'd gain anything by raising it up on legs. A la hinged panels in the pic you might like a weight on each end to stop it sailing over. The curvature puts the weight behind the front to give it purchase.

Re: AT installed! about time......
Back to the AT.....I just took my wifes AT out of her summer car to put it up for the winter and just for shits and giggles I brought it in the house and tag teamed it with the other AT all ready there on my home theater.
All I can say is wow! that's it.
I am amazed at the sound. If you have not built this AT sub for your car or home theater,
Have one built, build one yourself, or buy one from a builder.
I have never owned a real home theater system other than the Panasonic. But I have heard a Bose acoustic 6 system and this I feel is defiantly in the comparison range.
I have showed 2 people the sub and how it sounds with one sub watching Transformers II. I can't wait for them to hear this with 2.
Awesome design Bill!

Re: AT installed! about time......
single driver or dual?
And I don't have the plans infront of me (forgive me) but is it the same rule, the wider it is the lower it goes? But this would be taller cause it is on its side.
No comparison? wow! I can't imagine lower.
What I got now (2 AT's) blows any thing store bought.
