Aruaco is preferred because it is mostly voidless.

Whatever plywood you decide on, it needs to be free of large inner voids which may be partially filled with the glassy plywood glue that binds the layers together. That crap may loosen and buzz over time.

I just got back from plywood inspection and it's not looking good. The best they have at Placemakers is C/D. The C side is a bit smooth but the the D side is full of knot circles and there are little voids along the edges. And they want NZ$ 79 a sheet! The guy thought I was from the moon enquiring about A/C.

I'm really not too bothered about the finish but I'm guessing knots are no good for butt joints in folded horns?

Now there is some spectacular furniture making stuff available online which is but 11.5mm thick and not actually graded so I don't know what it is exactly. There aren't the little voids in the edges so if it's not all knotty on the back side is it good?

Find a cabinet shop. There has to be one around somewhere. They always know where to get or will sell you good quality ply. I'm lucky that there are two custom shops and 2 major cabinet builder companies within 30 miles. My favorite lumberyard keeps the bb for them to prototype with.

No luck with the hoop pine Harley uses?
